I think it is the La Patera Ranch. I was especially intrigued by the penmanship; I have noticed a correlation of German and the Scandinavian languages. I especially noted that the author recorded the date in the American fashion.

This where my parents met on the pistol range and now the SB County Education and Fire HQ.

"Light Yellow Filter" is to add contrast in the sky and make blue tones darker.... OMG, this photo has been ENHANCED! :-)

It does look like La Patera Ranch

Total dart in the dark, but it does look like the view of the mountains from about San Marcos Pass. So I agree with Street Painter.

The backround view of La Cunbre Peak puts this location at or near the Cathedral Oaks and San Marcos Pass roads area. The poster who guessed the County Schools, County/Fire HQ. site is closest to the correct location. La Patera Ranch has a similar entry but you would not get that view of La Cumbre Peak and there are much steeper foothills abutting the entrance to La Patera Ranch.

I thinks that's up Via Chaparal and over the bridge to nowhere. I believe there are trailheads at the top of the street, and all the way up Via Chaparal.

The SB County Schools building sits on land once part of the ranchland owned by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul. Parts of their ranch were taken by the State for San Marcos Pass and for Hollister Avenue. They still own land on both sides of the Pass, the San Vicente Mobile Home Park and St. Vincent's Family & Senior Housing.

I can remember going to a shooting range as a kid were the Fire HQ is now. I think there was also a range there that the SD used in the 70's..

I thought St Vincent's was all on the Goleta side of the 154 "Pass".

The penmanship is closer to Catholic school than an immigrant nationality.

St. Vincent's has owned the land since the 1860s, long before San Marcos Pass was built. They still own some land adjacent to the east side of the Pass near Cieneguitas Road. Over the years they have sold off land to continue their work in providing for needy children and poor families in Santa Barbara.
