Just Between Us

By William Smithers
Since 2009, my wife, Lorrie Hull Smithers, and I have been co-producers and co-hosts of the Santa Barbara Channel 17 television program "Just Between Us!"
This program has now ceased production.
In 2011 and 2012, "Just Between Us!" received five nominations for WAVE (Western Access Video Excellence) Awards, presented annually by the Alliance for Community Media (Western Region).
We believe we are the only public access television program in this area to be so honored.
131 of our televised interviews are still available at the program website:

The great majority of these episodes are still extremely relevant to current issues, organizations and personalities.
In my mind, this is a legacy of which I can be proud.
Why not see for yourself? Just go the site, click on "Directory of Interviews," and spend a few minutes watching the photographic slide show. When something takes your interest, just click on the slide show photo to go to the page of the interview. There, just click on the interviewee(s) photo to enjoy a half-hour show. Alternatively, the Directory page includes a complete alphabetical list of included episodes.
Lorrie is continuing the broadcast tradition with a TV Santa Barbara show, "Our View" with co-host Jean Nicol.

William! Good stuff sir. Don't let the randoms get you down - you did what you wanted and what you loved. Respect!

William, I cancelled my cable tv 18 months ago and now only pay for Cox internet. Since then I have discovered many new ways to get news and information. You should check out posting your shows on You Tube. Many young people are doing it. As one example, My Damn Channel has a number of creative people posting every week. Yes, they are young enough to be our grand children, but I think it's an option.

I watched this show and was so impressed with how William and Lorrie Smithers conducted the interviews. Other community TV programs have ego-driven hosts who wind up jabbering to distraction. This wasn't the case with Just Between Us, whose hosts focused on the people they were interviewing and not themselves. Thank you for the links to the broadcasts.

Youtube would expose your legacy to a much wider audience, and save you some money.

Why did you cease production, your choice or that of Ch 17?

This was a show of professional competence and focus mostly due to the preparation of the hosts. It filled a niche that will be missed.

Seems like some info has been left out. Was the show cancelled, or did you choose to not do it anymore. Whats the story? Or, am I missing something here??

Great work Bill. You and Lorrie were dedicated and professional producers, well prepared. You sought out interesting guests and did not shy away from controversy. Your strong support for public access was also much appreciated.
