I think they were checking for H and S involving several Homeless Types sleeping in the bushes there. Something about a cavity search on their person..

Someone was arrested that worked at a restaurant on Anapamu st. Noozhawk reported that the guy was involved in a strong armed robbery, and stole stuff from Macy's. Here's the link to the story, picture & name. http://www.noozhawk.com/article/013113_police_release_photo_department_store_robbery/

H&S refers to the Health and Safety Code, which defines and specifies penalties for drug-related crimes. In this context it means they're looking for drug-related violations.

H and S activity is not always "drugs". It is the first description that dispatch provides to the responding units;

Well, if you read the Noozhawk article, it mentions that the suspect had meth

They always put on gloves before dealing with the homeless/drunk/drug addled bums and vagrants as a safety precaution. That area, the library and unfortunately, many other areas of the downtown are infested with these folks and it is the job of the police to deal with them daily.

Don't they put on the gloves dealing with everyone or just the homeless?

Harwood said investigators further believe that Meza-Delatorre had recently used methamphetamine. Meza-Delatorre was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of robbery and burglary, both felonies, and use of methamphetamine, a misdemeanor. Bail was set at $50,000.

Roger are you asking a serious question or being facetious? I don't know if you drive anymore but when was the last time you saw an officer pull someone over and put on protective gloves before writing them a ticket? Have you ever been in the Police department to get a report or pay a parking ticket? If you do you will see the officers and staff DO NOT put on protective gloves. They put them on when they feel a need to protect themselves from drugs, harmful substances, desease and filth paricularly when they have to search or pat down someone that has urinated or defecated on themselves, etc. Also, if there is a potential crime scene and they do not want to comntaminate any evidence!

People who urinate (or worse) on public property present a health hazard to all of us. We've never lived in a community that tolerates such disregard for others. We just visited our friends in Boca Raton Florida and they said they don't have a problem because they don't put up with people who disrespect others.

LOL. The big thing in the news right now for Boca Raton is that eight homeless people have moved into a vacant mansion and are refusing to leave.
