Where in Santa Barbara can one feel the clock turn back in a good "frozen-in-time" sort of way? Or does
this not exist anymore?

I wouldn't include Harry's. Why? The new owners changed the recipes (and of course the menu). The food is nowhere as good. In fact the new owners cheap out ingredients wise.

@888, I was just thinking today of how the food sucks at Harry's. Often my softball team eats there after our games because they're one of the only places in town open late enough to accommodate us and too often I am disappointed at the food, regardless of what I choose. I feel their burger is one of the only values left on their menu.

Moby Dick.....dark, dank, 70's bar style and then add the Frank Sinatra music to that and you are in another era. I will also add the Museum of Natural History.....how old *is* that stuffed bear??! I do love their special programs though and much of what they do:-)

The zoo, and maybe the new carousel, if you have a good imagination. Yep, Hendry's for me, and Harry's (too expensive these days) and especially Petrini's on Calle Laureles, the first 2 restaurants I was ever in.

U-pick at Santa Barbara Blueberries...closed for the season but they have a guest house you can rent at Restoration Oaks Ranch on the same property. Hundreds of wild acres and old roads for walking, forgetting the hectic pace. Pigs, chickens, cows. 30 minutes up the 101 just past Nojoqui. Or just wait until May and go pick blueberries.

How back in time do you want to go? Arroyo Hondo preserve near Gaviota has public tours and lovely picnic areas by a year round creek. Experience California as the first Americans, Spanish rancheros and white settlers first encountered it. You will need your hiking boots for this one.

The Hall of Records within the SB Courthouse with the restored skylight ceiling. I love to go in there and pretend I'm back in a more "genteel" era. Someone left a book (My Dream of You) on one of the desks. I read it, loved it and returned it to the desk for someone else to find. The Little Town Club also feels like stepping into the past :)
