I got caught in the traffic back-up on the Northbound 101. I figured someone had an accident. When I saw the semi's exiting at Fairview I figured I should too. I Hope everyone is ok - a 3X roll is pretty scary.

See Noozhawk article. A vehicle (no ID ) on 101 N changed lanes into the right-hand lane as this 21 year-old Kia driver was merging into the lane. Interesting contrast with Tony Denuncio re (politically) unsafe lane changes.

If that's where 3 lanes on 101 changes to two lanes plus the on ramp, I've always thought it DUMB that the high speed lane wasn't continued another 200 yards to make it safer. There is room for it. If the Kia driver or family reads this, please due the county for obvious stupidity.

Yup, the #1 lane should be extended another 1/4 to 1/2 mile to allow a gradient merging. As it stands, it's like 4 lanes into 2 with the on ramp and the #1 lane merging at approximately the same time. Hope the driver is ok. Time to see your chiropractor and get checked.

Yup, poor design at Fairview. Loop-dee-doodle onramp with a slightly shorter than average striaght acceleration lane for the many big trucks getting on there, and high speed traffic merging in from the #1 at the same point. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Can't really fix it now without investing in a lot of concrete and asphalt, but with a little sanblasting and re-striping, the #3 lane could be an exit only at Fairview NB, the #1 & #2 could continue on without having having to merge at all, and the Fairview NB onramp could get a longer straight run for merging out of the shadow of the overpass Of course extending the 3rd lane to Storke would be so much better if there is ever funding.

or people could just focus 100% on driving, understand common courtesies of the road and stay within the limitations of their vehicle/abilities when they get behind the wheel. we don't need to rebuild the highway because it's "difficult" to navigate at times. driving is a privilege and a responsibility, it should always be treated as such.
