Did the accident happen before the NB Fairview exit, or after? Just curious because as vehicles merge onto NB 101 from Fairview, and the freeway goes from three lanes to two, and I have witnessed many a close call because either drivers fail to yield or vehicles speed up trying get in front vehicles in the fast lane.

542 - not sure but I agree with you. That stretch is SOOO bad! Not sure why they haven't redone that whole terrible Fairview situation (overpass included). I avoid that part of town like lower State St. during Fiesta!

542, based on the picture in the other thread that's exactly where it is. That's taken from the corner of where spectrum is facing the freeway.

It's exactly where the lane merges; I drove by shortly after it happened. It was a mess.

I guess we’ll have to wait until some VIP or their relative is involved in an accident at this location before anything is done about it. Because no matter how long and how much we “peons” have complained about the horrendous design and inherent dangers associated with this section of US 101, nothing has been done, or will be done to address it.

That is truly a bad stretch of the highway. Even if I drive through there when traffic is light someone always does something stupid.

I avoid that Fairview interchange. So do many others I know. Hard to imagine what it would be like if so many didn't go to great effort to avoid it!

I agree with those of you who say it's a bad on ramp but honestly, the driver training in this state is terrible. I have lived here since 1974 but got my drivers ed in NY. Almost every day I see people entering the freeway at 40-50 mph! This is very dangerous regardless of the design of the entrance ramp. Back in the 70s when I applied for my first CA drivers license I was amazed at how people could take the written test right next to other people and share answers. On a daily basis I watch terrible drivers turn without using signals, change lanes in the middle of a turn, speed across lanes to avoid passing their exit, drive 53 mph in the fast lane, etc. No wonder there are so many accidents here. In Germany, a drivers license costs over $1,000. If you drive too slow in the fast lane of the autobahn, you are ticketed—and it's an expensive ticket. Too many tickets for this and you lose your license. If you're prone to going 55 in the fast lane please get the h#@l out of the way! When you enter a highway or freeway, do it at freeway speed, with a turn signal and NOT texting or talking on the phone. You need both hands on the wheel.

the difficulty here stems from inattentive drivers not the lines painted on the road.
