Ford 1, Honda 0
updated: Jan 31, 2013, 8:21 AM

By the Urban Hikers

The sole driver of a Honda sedan managed to escape serious injury on Wednesday evening at about 5:15, when a car he was driving collided with two parked cars on W. Islay Street.

The Honda was traveling westbound on Islay and struck the two vehicles, a Ford and a BMW, just before reaching De LaVina Street.

As reported by Roger the Scanner Guy, the driver of the Honda took off running after the accident, heading eastbound on Islay Street. SBFD arrived to find the three damaged vehicles, the airbag deployed in the Honda, and no one to take responsibility for the collision.

Due to the nature of the accident SBPD officers were called to investigate. Several minutes later the driver of the Honda, a man in his late 20's - early 30's, arrived at the scene to report that he had been the driver of the ill-fated Honda.

According to witness at the scene of the accident, one neighbor, hearing the crash went outside to investigate. About that same time, the driver of the Honda was hightailing it eastbound on Islay Street. The neighbor, seeing the fleeing man, and understanding that he was running from the accident took off after him. Within a short distance the good samaritan caught up with the fleeing driver and somehow or another convinced the man to return to the scene of the accident to take responsibility for his actions.

The driver, who was reportedly driving his girlfriend's car, heeded the good advice and returned to the Honda. He was arrested at the scene and transported by police for further questioning.

Santa Barbara Fire Department responded to the scene with Engine 1. Santa Barbara Police Department officers responded for investigation of the accident and traffic control. Fortunately no one was injured in this accident.

There is no word on how the owner of the Honda has responded to her boyfriend's misadventure.

Fleeing the scene of an accident is never a good idea no matter what the circumstances are. Glad he was convinced to go back and take responsibility for his actions. No mention of alcohol being involved but I would not be surprised if it was.

I'm guessing "distracted driver syndrome"...talking on his cell phone, texting, reaching over to get something, adjusting music, etc. I too am happy the guy returned to fess up. Good for him and good for the man who helpded him come to that decision.

the car he was driving collided? not, he drove into two parked cars.

Yeah I was confused about the " struck by the two vehicles part "
The parked cars jumped out in front of him!

And that's a Toyota camary or something, not a Honda

369350 - Since Roger reports on accidents, fires, etc, it is not difficult to understand that UH hot-foot it/drive-fast to the scene of the activity. (or they have magical powers that take them to the scene before it happens?)

So the guy in the police car (3rd picture) was driving a car down the street, and somehow managed to crash it into two parked cars. Nice. Then he ran away. Really Nice. Then he came back. Good call. Then the cops arrested him, or at least put him in a police car.

It looks like what the UH reported did happen - a Honda "collided" with a Ford and a BMW, both of which happend to be parked at the time.

Why is everyone having so much trouble comprehending this story, and criticizing the reporter? I actually appreciate knowing what's up in SB, so I have no problem with the UH, and think they did a decent job of conveying what happened yesterday.

Pretty tasteless to have a photo of someone in a police car, whether or not they're guilty of a crime.

My parked car got hit in August (during the Fiesta Parade - no I wasn't fiesting either) and I am still waiting for the other insurance company to pay for my extensive repairs. My car was damaged much more than these. It was a mess. I feel very sorry for the people who got their cars hit. He probably wasn't insured even if he had a license. Makes me glad I have uninsured motorist coverage!

350, I'm guessing they have a scanner and then they race to the scene of the accident to take pictures.

Kind of, uh, an interesting hobby. Not my taste, but I think that's how it's done.

@LIZBETH: THANK YOU!! A collision, of course, is when two moving objects come into contact with each other, usually at speed. The Honda/Toyota struck, hit, crashed, or ran into the parked cars. No one ever gets that right since they stopped teaching proper English in schools.

We determined the car doing the "hitting" is a Toyota Camry.

However, the two cars to be hit are a Ford Explorer (correctly reported) and an Audi A3/A4 (reported as a BMW).

So, a Toyota hit a Ford and an Audi. As a car nut, just wanted to make sure we had it right. ;-)

I don't mean to be a stickler here, but how do you expect to report a hit and run properly if you can't even give a proper vehicle description?

UH here - Apologies to any and all who were offended by the improper grammar and/or the incorrect vehicle descriptions in this story. I hope it didn't ruin your day. Today is the 7th anniversary of my little brother, Jason Sears death. He would have been 45 on the 23rd of this month. It's been a bit rough for me these past few weeks, so if you could be patient with me, that would be appreciated. Other than grieving the loss of an amazing brother and the crap I read on Edhat, the day was pretty darn good. Try not to be petty and instead be grateful for the blessings in your lives. - Stacey
