Bidet
updated: Jan 29, 2013, 4:16 PM

I went to visit a friend in Texas and he had this bidet seat on his toilet, used it and loved it, now I want to get one. Does anyone know where I can get one in Santa Barbara?

I suggest buying a basic Toto Washlet toilet seat like the B100 online. I love mine. Save money on toilet paper too!

I have never used one, but love the concept and wish they would come back in style.

Believe it or not, but Costco has had them for months. Seriously.

Check their website link.

We bought ours (Toto) online from Amazon. Plumbing hook-up was easy, but running the required dedicated electrical circuit was $300.

Uh oh, it has infrared heating and wireless control... watch out for the brain (and other things)-melting waves! lol
I'm all for bidets, though the euphemisms, such as IIP, are ... interesting.

Holly crap, did you see how much those paper seat covers cost?

you will need a power outlet behind the toilet

I assume while you're wiring the electrical outlet might as well pop in a wireless router like an Apple Airport Express so you have wi-fi in the bathroom.

Heck, now that I think about this high end bathroom, might as well get that drool-worthy Samsung 80" LED TV at Costco while checking out with the bidet.

Woo Hoo! One stop shopping. Oh, you can also pop for a $1.50 dog & soda for lunch.

I love my Toto Washlet and it's lasted for 12 years and no problems. Everyone in Japan his them and I don't know why they haven't caught on here in a bigger way. If you buy one online you won't pay sales tax and you can have the electrician install it when they put in an outlet near the toilet.

We bought a non-electric, easy to intstall BioBidet Simplet model that we ordered from HomeDepot.com. for under $70.

My husband installed one and when he was away, I installed the same model in our guest bathroom. Very easy!!

O.K., it can give you a bit of a cold goose when the temps are down in the 30's and 40's, but we just grin and bear it.

We love it and wished we had known about these 30 years ago. Just use your t.p. to pat yourself dry and enjoy the comfort and cleanliness.

When you buy on line you DO have to pay sales/use tax. It has been easy to evade, but with online purchases being so well documented, it is easy for the State to close in. I got a letter over building products I ordered online for a client and had to pay the tax. Bidets rock!

Do these things have a sight to know where to aim for different targets or does each person have to readjust for depth and distance to the target?

Actually 891, if you go to the website www.bidet-toilet-seat.com, they offer free shipping as well as no sales tax nationwide.

I have an old IFO Cascade toilet that acts like a bidet if you flush it while you're sitting down. Quite a surprise for new users!

Toto washlet is great. More than just bidet, it has a heated seat option, fan that vacuums odor, self cleans to some extent, and unlike traditional bidet, heats the water. Yes it aims, and has ability to wash front and back down there. It also has an air dry function.

Ths ingenious device can be mounted by your plumber on a traditional toilet. And they last. Ours is 5yrs old and works just as well as day one.

I think I'd rather use wipes, I would never try to wash without soap, water doesn't cut it.

933 - YES!

The entire idea of a gentle stream of water attempting to thoroughly clean after a "major event" is just gross.

I'll stick to using the awesome Costco toilet paper, thank you.

In Bali I experienced a toilet with very thin copper tubing that "rinses" quite nicely. Very good in a hot humid climate. Have wanted something like it ever since. Thanks for all the info fellow edhatters :)

You do not need a "dedicated" electric line for one of these high tech toilet seats. They don't use much power, but they do need to be plugged in.

When you use wipes, which they make for all ages, it keeps the shower cleaner longer.

My conversion to using these bidets was when I was asked "Do you wash your dirty dishes by wiping them with a dry paper towel?" I use a simple non electric self installed version. Yes, the cold water may be surprising at first, but you get used to it. Just to be sure, I supplement with the Costco brand flushable wipes. They are much better than the Cottrenelle brand! I rarely have to use toilet tissue rolls now.
