Go to Apple Store and tell them your screen has a yellowish tint to it, it's a fairly common manufacturing flaw, they will replace with new device.

I have an iPad so I'd be very interested to hear how much this sets you back. It can't be cheap to fix these things

MacMechanic is a edhat advertiser, and does most of the Apple repairs in town (and does them well). My impression is that the Apple store is generally more interested in selling you new devices than fixing old devices. (Do they even have repair-people in house?) If it is no longer in warranty, perhaps you should ask for quotes at all the above mentioned places and then report back (to benefit others with similar needs)? Even then, cheapest isn't always best. Best of luck.

Whatever you decide, I hope you'll be honest instead of trying to game the system as some other commenters have suggested.

You can try your luck with those people who spam craigslist with cheap repairs, or you can throw it away and get an Android tablet. They are wayyy better.

Becky, you are mistaken. The Apple Store has by far the largest. Apple repair operation in town. There is nothing wrong with using Sammy's or the Mac Mechanic but don't think the Apple Store is just selling product.

Do NOT use Brian Kovarik, aka The iDoctor . I used him to replace a cracked screen. Really nice guy. He came to meet me quickly replaced the screen. Unfortunately he used really cheap parts and the proximity sensor wouldn't work anymore, which meant I hung up on people and hit buttons with my cheek 100% of the time I put the phone to my ear. I called him back and he told me there was no way to fix the proximity sensor and to use a bluetooth device or a earplug. So I called Cel Tek and talked the guy there. He promised he could fix that problem by replacing the screen with a higher quality part. He did and the phone works perfectly now, but that was another $85 - would have been $95 but I mentioned Edhat and got $10 off. I wish I would have taken it to Cel Tek in the first place. Or better yet, Mac Mechanic, but I was looking for a deal.

I stand corrected... and I forgot Sammy's Camera (& Macs). [I don't understand why regular subscribers hesitate to put their name on polite corrections. I appreciate being corrected when I'm misinformed. One of Edhat's advantages is we're all smarter together than any of us is alone -- or at least that applies to most of us.]

I had an 27 inch iMac that needed a new drive and a screen replacement under warranty. I went to Sammy's who I really do like and they suggested that I go ahead and take it to the Apple Store. They said they would have to go through an approval process and order a screen that could take a week or more, because as you might imagine, replacing a 27 inch screen is quite expensive to them. I thanked them for letting me know and took it to Apple on Saturday and they returned it with a new screen and drive on Monday. Now I stick with the Apple store and they have never disappointed me or tried to sell me something else. Applecare is 2nd to none whether you take it to Apple or use an authorized dealer like Sammys.

Just for the record, it's Samy's (on Chapala) and they, like Mac Mechanic, are an authorized Apple dealer. Unlike the Mac Mechanic, Samy's is a chain and computers are secondary to cameras. However, locally, their repair work is very good and reasonable In price and quick.
