Clouds, sunsets, clarity of mountains, purple color in afternoon, quick changes in temperature and light. Love living here!

Today was one of the most fabulous days ever, in terms of visual beauty. The light ! The clouds, the colors. It is the best season in California, these clear green days of winter.

Wintertime in Santa Barbara - clothing with textures, substance. Crisp, cleaner air, time for heartier foods, greater likelihood of seeing the islands offshore, colors seem more vivid, more time for inside activities, clearing paperwork, greater appreciation for what we have here in Santa Barbara while other parts of the world have harsher weather and conditions. Living in Santa Barbara is a little like being sheltered in a protective "hot house" - there's an element of artificiality, but it can be comforting.

The cool, crisp morning air; green mountains; overnight rain storms; a crackling fireplace; hot chocolate; cozy sweaters and scarfs; the Australian Open; Super Bowl Ads; less traffic; no mosquitos or little black flies to annoy me; clear starry nights; hearty soups; The Sojourner; Irish Coffee; cuddling with my wife under thick feathers; hearing news reports about snow storms and sub-zero weather happening somewhere else.

... surf!
... watching the storms roll in, and quickly out.
... cool, clear weather (vs. Summer's cool, cloudy days).
... naturally irrigated fruit trees.
... wet trails, wild mushrooms, green hillsides.

I look forward to ”winter” every year here, as well as mourning it's passing when it leaves us--far too quickly I might add. We are so climatized here, it's almost funny when people don scarves and super-thick sweaters anytime the temperature drops below 60. I revel in dark skies, cool temperatures, and stormy weather. There is an intrinsic Beauty to it all which many people don't seem to appreciate. A little variety in our normally bright and blue shiny happy weather goes a long way towards keeping me sane. Here's to praying next year is an El Nino!! :)

Pray for an El Nino!!!!!!! Insanity reigns. I was flooded out twice by the last big one.

Funny is people shivering in shorts and mini skirts and hugging their bosoms while exposing crops of goose pimply blue/ white limbs!

I saw one of these standing outside Nordstrom's pathetically whining about the cold, so I told her to go home and put some clothes on!

Greening hills, night skies, the return of the frogs in the creek, and crazy bird action...

The light is perfect, esp. at sunrise and sunset; the reds, blues, oranges, purples and pinks are stunning. The air is crisp and clear. The green comes quickly post rain, and shouts "Spring!" Snuggling in bed, listening to the rain is bliss itself. Walking on the beach after a storm reveals treasures. The creeks flowing bring frogs songs. Hiking is great, with wonderful sights and smells, and no flies. Starlit nights are phenomenal. The brief cold and wet makes us appreciate the usual warm and temperate all the more.

I like it when it's cold and very dry outside. There is a stillness to the season that I appreciate. I like to ditch work early some days and go home and clean the house while the sun sets. CaraCara oranges are in season too...so good. There is something happy in every day - you have to look for it longer and harder on some days.

Watching the national news and realizing that our "wintertime" weather is most others' late spring weather.

Enjoying the mild winter weather. This is what most of the country would call "spring conditions". Hoping for more rain and maybe some more snow on the mountain.

Nice, poetic images shared dear Edhat readers. Thank you. Wonder if there's more readings of Edhat during the wintertime, when people might be indoors more?

LOVE the cold nights...opening all the windows and getting under a blanket, hearing the surf in the distance (on the mesa) and the wind and occasional fog horn.
Doesn't get much better than that :-)
