Almond Milk Coffee
updated: Jan 27, 2013, 1:01 PM

Are there any coffee shops in the area that have Almond Milk as an option? I'd love to be able to enjoy my cup of joe in the A.M. with some A.M. :P

Goodland Kitchen in Goleta. They serve Green Star coffee and great breakfast treats, too.

It's not a coffee shop, but Adama has freshly made almond milk (and delicious breakfast pastries, too). Good Cup on the Mesa used to have it, but I haven't been there in ages. Also, I've brought my own almond milk to Starbucks, they're happy to steam it for you (you might want to call ahead). Good luck!

If your downtown, SB Roasting company has it. I heard the cashier talking about it, but didn't see it when I got my coffee

None of the almond milk served at the places mentioned in this thread is organic. The only place that serves organic almond milk is at Spudnuts in Goleta and possibly their downtown location. Their coffee is pretty good (but REALLY REALLY hot) and with the organic almond milk it's muy delicious. Pair up your coffee with one of their fluffy potato donuts and you're good to go for several hours!!! Now you know why all the cops go to Spudnuts.

The Coffee Collaborative in IV does!

I was so sad to go into Peets today and ask for Almond Milk. They only carry dairy and soy.

I want to caution any one who suffers from asthma to read the ingredients on any box of almond milk, including organic almond milk, that you may purchase.

Last time I drank organic almond milk, I couldn't breathe right for days. I read the ingredients and----don't quote me on this-----thought I saw "potassium sorbate" or some such preservative. Whatever it was in that milk, my lungs really hated it. Who would think?

What does asking about almond milk have to do with people starving in other countries? I just don't get the connection. Like if you don't care what goes in your coffee, the world will have enough food?

Haven't tried the Lucky Llama in Carp but they have a sign out front that says "local coffee". Since there are no coffee plantations in SB County, I've been meaning to go in and ask what it means. I lived for a year in Hawaii, on the Kona Coast, where coffee was actually local.

@FLICKA There IS coffee being grown in Santa Barbara. Good Land Organics. Grown, processed, and roasted right here in SB (well Goleta).

@Flicka - There definitely are coffee plantations in SB County. Well, ok. There's one! It's Jay Ruskey's coffee plantation/farm in Goleta.

He sells at FM and also to local shops in Ojai and Ventura.

There's a micro-plantation in Ventura that sells locally, too. For the life of me, I can't remember what that one is called, though.

Actually there is a local coffee grower: Goodlands Organic in the Goleta foothills. They also grow cherimoya, avocados and a lot of other fruits. Maybe this is the coffee that the Lucky Llama uses.

Whole Foods has organic almond milk at their coffee bar, & you can even asked for the unsweetened version. If you don't want additives in your almond milk, make it yourself, it's pretty easy (soaked almonds & water), Google it online for instructions.

RE: Starbucks - a lot of times they won't put something you bring into any of their equipment (i.e. a milk steamer, their blenders, etc) because of potential for contamination and allergies. If someone was allergic to almonds, and they just steamed your almond milk then rinsed the contained & served the allergic person, they'd be in big trouble. Not to mention god only knows whats actually in a container of XYZ some random person brings in. In other words, don't be mad at Sbux when they deny you if you ask. You can always bring your own milk/creamer/whatever in your mug and ask them to just top off your cup with coffee, since they don't have to contaminate their equipment to do so. (Not what the OP was asking, but I had to chime in so someone doesn't get disappointed if they try Sbux.)

Thanks to everyone who gave information about locally grown coffee. "Learn something new every day", and that's what I learned today; Edhat is a great place for learning. I'll have to try the Lucky Llama.
