January 25, 2013 - Somewhere Over The Rainbow

John Palminteri shares this great image of a Thursday morning rainbow over Lake Cachuma. Rainbows are just as mysterious as they are beautiful. With that in mind, we decided to share three facts about rainbows that you might not have known.

Rainbow Facts:

  • A Rainbow is light refracted through millions of droplets of water.

  • The angle of light refraction to create a Rainbow is 42 degrees to the eye of the person watching.

  • Sir Isaac Newton discovered the seven distinct colors of the visible spectrum.

  • Everyone loves a rainbow!

    The 30th Space Wing and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency are scheduled to conduct a flight test exercising elements of the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense system Jan. 26, between the hours of 2 and 6 p.m on North base.


    The State Department of Finance decided to allow Santa Barbara to keep seven parking lots that it once asked the city to sell.
