Thinking about installing Sonos sound system in home. Which local
dealer is the best? Any opinions on the system?

I've had a Sonos system for about 8 years. It's great stuff. Best thing about it is they are a Santa Barbara company, and you don't need a dealer or installer to set it up. Go to the Sonos web site and order from them directly.

Careful about Sonos....it won't play your old protected iTunes files (before Apple "unlocked" them in '09). Very nasty surprise after investing a bundle in your new system! However, if you do have a large library of tunes you purchased prior to '09, then Apple will let you pay 30 cents per song to unlock it. Basically, Apple will not allow third party hardware to stream the old protected AAC files.

13P. You can burn the protected songs to a disk or drag them to a USB and re-download to your computer and then they aren't protected anymore. It worked for me. I LOVE MY SONOS SYSTEM!!!

I house sat for someone who worked for them & had a system. Loved it. Plan to maybe get one when I have a house (right now, my place is so tiny I can play music from one speaker & hear it anywhere...).

I used Paul Koslowsky from Santa Barbara Smart Home - (805) 705-3677. He is AMAMZING. He also installed built in speakers through out our home that work with our Sonos. He got everything up and running. He made sure all our various music library's were uploaded to the Sonos system. He made sure all our computer and smart devices were loaded with Sonos controllers. His prices for Sonos equipment was just a little bit higher than the website and it was worth it to have everything work effortlessly. WE LOVE OUR SONOS SYSTEM!!!

Mission Audio did ours and did a great job. We were early adopters and are very happy with it.

013 sounds like an Apple issue and not a Sonos issue. We've had our Sonos for several years now (5-7 not sure) and got it directly from Sonos. It worked right outside of the box. If you need any help their help line people are good and they're in Santa Barbara :) Only thing I don't like about it is not being able to listen to the Lakers games. I'll listen to the Los Angeles ESPN streaming station all day and then when the game starts the national stream takes over and they just play a loop of music between headlines. I have to listen on my computer or lug out my old "boom box". No big deal since I haven't been inspired to listen to them lose lately.

Agree! Love our Sonos purchased locally through Sonos. My parents purchased in Seattle through Best Buy and also love it. Help available online or call Sonos.

We have one but it is a bit of a PIA. It may be a older version, but it is impossible to sync the itunes despite calling the company for support. If a guest has a a iPhone or like device it just takes a lot of effort, they have to sign up get the app, etc. It is not good if you want spontaneous play of music by your friends We just end up using the Bose, but maybe we are old, not super techie and just want to dance. We use blue tooth a lot and it only works on WiFi. Sonos system for sale if anyone interested. The concept is good, but not for us.

262, It is one of those types of items that if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it. <:+)

262P - Their are various components of the Sonos system. The speakers range in price, depending on where you get them, from $200 to $400.

You can buy from Sonos directly and it's not difficult to install yourself. If you can install your own modem/router, you can install your own Sonos. We use Rhapsody to stream just about any music through Sonos--including all new releases--whenever we want throughout the house for a low monthly subscription to Rhapsody. Can't recommend the system enough!

LOVE my Sonos which I've had for 6 years. Service has been great and they keep adding more features. I bought directly from the company and installed it myself - easy peasy!

We love our Sonos players I would order them direct from Sonos. It sounds amazing and they are super easy to set up - you are up and running in 5-10 minutes (provided you have a good internet speed and WIFI signal in your house). We have 2 Zone3 speakers and they sound sooo good. you can also control everything from your iphone and/or ipad. next on our list is to buy the sub.

@MESARATS - Depending on what Sonos pieces you have, I'm interested. Can you list the equipment and provide a contact number or email?

309: figgered as such. Guess I'll hang onto the 70's JBL's, Pioneer, Dual, Marrantz, and Sony stuff a few more years...man, that vinyl sounds great compared to CDs.

Costco had a Sonos package over the holidays, don't know if it's still there. It had the bridge and the larger speaker. Don't know whether it was a better deal than list price, but if it wasn't then Costco wouldn't sell it.
