Kudos to the Dons Cheer Team The Santa Barbara High School Dons Competition Cheer Team has twice took first place in the USA regionals on Saturday, January 12, in San Juan Capistrano and again on Saturday, January 19, in Agoura Hills in both Varsity Show Cheer (novice) and Varsity Group Stunt Cheer (intermediate). These wins reinforce the team's qualification for USA Nationals in both categories to be held in March in Anaheim, California, where the team will defend their USA Nationals title (the Dons are four-time defending USA regional champions).

"Both wins are a testament to these athletes," commented SBHS Athletic Director Joe Chenoweth. "These dedicated athletes work hard to master their techniques and it shows."

The Santa Barbara High School Dons Competition Cheer Team are 2013 USA Regional Champions and the current defending 2012 Nationals Champion its division in Varsity Show Cheer. The USA Regionals is a series of competions in which high school teams throughout the Central Coast and Southern California compete over a five-month period for the national championships to be held March 15-17 in Anaheim.

To date, the Dons Competition Cheer Team has defeated ten other California schools to win USA Regionals for show cheer and seven other California school to win USA Regionals for group stunt cheer. This team consists of 32 members and five of the students also compete on the group stunt team.

In addition to the role as ambassadors of Santa Barbara High School cheering at the schools athletic events, the team commits to more than 10 months of training for these competitions. The team relies on fundraising efforts and sponsorships to support their program costs.

Thank you, EDDIEKD & 781P. Glad I'm not the only one who moonlights as a copyeditor.

Cheerleading is, by far, one of the most athletic and entertaining sports, ever, JULIAN. Haven't you noticed how super-fit and toned all those kids are? It's not the cheerleading of the old days. Cheerleading has become a fierce and cut-throat competitive sport.

I support and congratulate these athletes, but I am absolutely stunned to see the degree of ineptitude displayed in the District's press release.
