What's up with the city's failure to remove all the graffiti from the gray wall just north of the Mission
offramp, next to the railroad tracks? I contacted the city's graffiti hotline last week and nothing has
been done. Since then the problem has only grown worse and it makes our otherwise beautiful city
look like an urban wasteland. Perhaps if we flood the city's graffiti hotline, something will actually get
done.

They realized it was too late, we are in an urban wasteland. But you could maybe give it more than a week. There are other areas they might be working on

Have you tried Caltrans? It could be you're barking up the wrong tree and the freeway offramp is not in the City's purview.

Probably the people that live in those neighborhoods are going to have to get a paint brush and start doing it themselves. Expecting "someone" from the City to do it is why the City has to hire more people and increase their budget. In my neighborhood if there is tagging I take my orange paint/marker removal solution and scrub it off. I only had to call them when someone sprayed the sidewalk and it needed to be sandblasted off.

How about that graffiti and obscenity-covered RV parked across from the Page Center? That thing has been there for months. I know at least 4 people have called it in, including Page Center staff, yet there it sits. Could be that it is on private property (though it appears to be parked in the bike lane), however I am quite sure it is the same RV that has moved around Noleta for the past year.

The "Broken Window" theory of crime is alive and well in SB. No one cares anymore; Not our Judges, DA, City Attorney, or Police Chief... Even our do nothing City Council and Mayor who only care about re election and being politically correct.

Losing battle, cover it up and it becomes a new canvas. If you plant ivy to cover the wall who is going to maintain it. If the graffiti really bothers you get a roller and some paint and do it yourself. There is a lot of spare paint around. Get together with others and take back the city. I for one have covered graffiti in my neighborhood and I don't mind doing a good deed.

There you go picking on artists again. I mean don't you think it's art? Well, I don't either! Because if it was art it would be painted on the houses of the taggers and on their fences and garage doors. But NO! Just on someone elses property. Little brat taggers should have their faces tattooed with that cr@p they paint all over the place. Some do I guess. Real. Effin. Smart.

Plus I think using different color paints to cover the grafitti makes it a less appealing canvas for the next tagger. Instead of some big unblemished wall you have something that looks more like camouflage and would require different colors to make a tag stand out.

Repaint the surface, then lurk nearby at night with a paintball gun and blast the offenders when they come to redecorate. Post pictures of the event on edhat.

The City does an incredible job dealing with the amount of grafitti we have. THANK YOU to the city workers who are out there every day taking care of business.

Get those taggers in the later posting to clean this wall up too. Why people think these taggers should be made to go in the military is beyond me. You think the military needs these losers? Surely our military has higher standards....

540 is right. The City is not going to paint over something in Caltrans' jurisdiction, and the freeway ramps (including the adjacent intersections) are. Try calling Caltrans, not that it will get you far.

Why does the Santa Barbara community allow Caltrans to ignore this area of their jurisdiction? We have the most littered area of any I have seen in California. Why is that? who is in charge of our district? They should be held accountable for the disgraceful appearance and condition of our stretch of 101. They are part of SBCAG and should be hearing from our supervisors monthly that the 101 needs attention. Graffiti and trash are not acceptable. Period.

Why not make it a mural, art is good for tourism and it costs the city very little compared to the constant need to repaint the publicly accepted gray. Regardless of what many think most graffiti artists respect art and rarely tag murals out of respect.

I agree with the last post. Art cures all. Looks good and deters graffiti. You can even enlist artists from that neighborhood and it will be a thing of pride. It has stopped graffiti at Mason and Helena and also behind the Autohaus at the bottom of De La Vina.
