At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday morning a reports were made to the Santa Barbara Fire
Department regarding a vegetation fire at Butterfly Beach west of the stairs and at the base of the cliffs.
Crews from Montecito FD were first to arrive on scene, followed by fire crews from SBFD.
Thanks to a very aggressive response, the flames were extinguished quickly, and the fire was under the
control of firefighters.
At a nearby residence, embers ignited a Canary Island Palm, and a quick-acting employee grabbed a
hose, applying water to keep the fire from spreading. Firefighters then turned their attention to the tree
hitting it with both water and foam to make certain the flames were completely extinguished.
It was a crowded day at Butterfly, and luckily all ended well.
