Matthew Storm Baucom, age 39, and Brooke April Standish, age 33, both of Santa
Barbara, were arrested in connection with a residential burglary that occurred
on the 400 block of Alameda Padre Serra on January 16, 2013. Baucom is
currently being prosecuted for a residential burglary that occurred on the 3700
block of Greggory Way on June 3, 2011.
On January 16, 2013 at 10:43 p.m., Santa Barbara Police Department Officers Tom
Eccles and Beth Lazarus responded to a residence on 400 Alameda Padre Serra to
investigate a report of a burglary. Upon arrival they contacted two victims who
advised the following. The victims had been gone from their residence most of
the day, returning at 9:00 p.m. to find doors ajar and items missing from one of
the bedrooms. Taken in the burglary were seven watches and a large sum of cash.
Fortunately, the victims had security cameras installed at their residence that
recorded the crime in high quality digital video. The video depicted the
suspect arriving at the residence in a white Ford Explorer at 11:33 a.m. The
victims' digital video recorder was taken to the SBPD Crime Lab where the video
of the incident was recovered and preserved as evidence.
Still images of the suspect from the video were disseminated to SBPD personnel
on the following day. Several detectives recognized the suspect as Baucom and
believed that the vehicle he was using belonged to his girlfriend, Standish. A
records check confirmed that Standish owned a Ford Explorer and that recent
contact was had with Baucom at an apartment on the 300 block of Palm Avenue.
Detectives from the Property Crimes unit, Narcotics unit, and officers from the
Criminal Impact Team obtained a search warrant for the apartment and conducted
surveillance in the area of 300 Palm Avenue. Baucom was observed getting into
Standish's white Ford Explorer and driving away. He was eventually stopped on
3200 Calle Real and taken into custody. Among the items discovered during a
search of the Ford Explorer were gloves, lock picks, and a messenger bag
identical to the one used by Baucom in the burglary at 400 Alameda Padre Serra.
Baucom was found to be an unlicensed driver and the vehicle was impounded.
Detectives executed the search warrant at the apartment on Palm Avenue and
contacted Standish there. During the search they discovered articles of
clothing resembling that worn by Baucom during the burglary at 400 Alameda Padre
Serra and found five of the watches stolen from the residence in Standish's
underwear drawer. They also recovered a quantity of cash in Standish's purse
believed to be the remainder of what was taken during that incident. Also found
in Standish's purse was a dose of the drug Suboxone, for which she did not
possess a prescription. Additionally, among her personal files detectives found
a notebook containing numerous access card numbers and PINs that did not appear
to belong to her.
Baucom was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for residential burglary, a
felony, and possession of burglary tools and unlicensed driver, both
misdemeanors. His bail amount is $50,000.00.
Standish was arrested and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for accessory to
a crime (burglary), possession of stolen property, possession of a dangerous
drug, and possession of access card information, all felonies. Her bail amount
is $20,000.00.

Baucom was being prosecuted for burglary that happened on June 3, 2011…so why is he out on the street? Does Baucom consider the amount he posted for bail (I assume he did) as the cost of doing business, err I mean, burglary? Standish looks like she is using crack. What a perfect couple. I hope they don’t have the means to make bail, and get to spend some quality time behind bars! Losers!

A great ad for home video surveillance! and dumb burglars who don't look for it! Glad these lowlifes aren't on the loose. It's unfortunate that SBPD's new dash cams weren't chosen for full-time recording like this and need to be turned on by officers, although the rear camera and the mic that can record voices from 150' away allow surveillance of people when they believe they're not in public view or able to be overheard by others.

I would think that the first rule of being a con is don't be caught CRYING in your mug shot! Think of it as your 8X10 glossy head shot - it can follow you around for a long time so, please, Caught Criminals, have some pride! And remember: a hairbrush or a quick smoosh of lip gloss ( before they cuff you) wouldn't go amiss! If you can't do the time ...

@018 Thank You I didn't think so but some of the addresses made me wonder..Wasn't the drug of choice heroin? It looks like something more intense..Also wondering what is going on over there on Palm Ave. Isn't this a smal street acouple or so blocks? It sounds like it's being over run a bit overnight sleepers, intimadators..I just heard this morning where a business entryway was blocked in the 200 Block of Palm Ave.

The drug Suboxone, which was found in Brooke's purse, is used to help people suffering from addiction. It's all speculation, of course, but it seems that she may have made at least one good decision before making so many bad ones... and I would be crying, too.
