Low Water Pressure
updated: Jan 19, 2013, 1:12 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

Our water pressure is suddenly very low. We're in Lower Riviera. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Just called SB Water Department and was told there is a water main break on Jimeno.

I'm on APS but have no water pressure issues.

Last weekend, the Cater water plant was shut down for repairs and the city was asking residents to conserve water during the repairs. The planned shutdown of Cater for this weekend has been cancelled (see the City of SB's website for more info). So that would not explain any drop in pressure.

Suggest you check outside for any leaks (I had one in the front yard, found it by listening for a hissing sound from the bad pipe). Also check the water valves going into your house. Also see if anyone is in the shower :)

Great reply.
How did you do it?
It is Saturday and I assume the SB Ciy Water Department is closed.
Do you have a number you called?
Is it a recording?
Did the so called incompetent Goverment update the information on a weekend?
Amazing if yes to these questions.

The City of SB has one of the most complex water systems in California. They have multiple pressure zones. One house may have 230 psi, while the next house has 40.
For any water emergency, call 963-4286. Someone will respond via phone or in person.

One house may have 230 PSI? Are you kidding me!

Some houses have more than that. They need a 300 - 400 lb pressure regulator.

Oh it's true. Wouldyou like to know where?

One could assume that pressures in the ranges suggested are responsible for main failures. Subjecting the system to such extreme pressures seems imprudent and easily remedied. That's why I don't believe it, but I could be proved wrong.

The pressure on our street is several hundred PSI. We have three regulators that step down the pressure to about 90 where it comes into the house. We have been here over 25 years and were told when we moved in it was high because of fire danger and location.

I noticed that our water pressure seemed lower than normal when I took a shower around 5pm saturday - we're near Cleveland school...

Morada Ln. has over 300 psi. Cleveland school area is close to two different pressure zones, you are on the low side.
