UCSB Emergency Speaker Testing
Monday, January 21
As part of UC Santa Barbara's ongoing emergency preparedness efforts, the campus has recently
added five new wide-area emergency speakers that will broadcast emergency messages throughout
the campus. There will be testing of all campuswide emergency speakers on Monday, January
21, which is a campus holiday. It's possible that these emergency broadcasts will be heard in the
adjoining Isla Vista neighborhoods.
Testing will be intermittent throughout the day and will consist of 5 to 10 minutes of broadcasting
over each speaker. These 5- to 10-minute broadcasts will be conducted multiple times to
synchronize and test the speakers. The speakers will emit a series of Emergency Test
Phrases - for example, "This is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System," followed by a
specific emergency statement such as "Tsunami Warning."

Did Santa Barbara ever have a system to alert for emergencies? I very vaguely a pole or two for such alerts.
