Three D Light

Here's a way to visit the Point Conception Lighthouse today. I've experimented with different ways of
seeing the 3-D effect, and have found a new one that's easier for many people who've tried it. Look at a
point about 2/3 up the white line in the middle, then gently cross your eyes until you begin to see three
images. As you keep gradually crossing your eyes you'll notice your attention drawn to two versions of
some feature in the middle image. For me it's usually the ball at the top of the tower, the tiny white dot I
put in the exact middle, or the decorative white box atop the middle of the roof. As you cross or uncross
your eyes to converge the two versions of your chosen feature in the middle image, your brain will
suddenly "lock" the two images together in the middle image. There will still be the appearance of three
images, but you'll tend to ignore the two on the sides as you look around the center one that's now framed
by two thin white lines. If you have any trouble, make the image smaller on the screen or just move your
eyes further away from the pic, and then do the same process again.

That's a very cool effect! Like the view a bird would have flying over it. The edges are clear, like the cliff, the rooftop - all have more dimension. Thanks!

So cool that the lens will be donated by the Coast Guard to be on display at the SB Maritime Museum---maybe by the end of this year!
