Panga Boat Found on Goleta Beach

Homeland Security Investigating

Goleta- At approximately 5:18 morning a county park employee discovered a panga boat on the shore at Goleta Beach. The abandoned boat which measures about 30 feet had about a dozen life- jackets and more than 15 containers of fuel on board. There was evidence of food and clothing in the vessel but no evidence of drugs. No arrests have been made. Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene and conducted the initial investigation. The case has been turned over to the Department of Homeland Security.

This is the first panga boat discovered in Santa Barbara County this year and the first found on Goleta Beach. Last year, there were more than 20 incidents regarding panga boats in Santa Barbara County.

The boat has been turned over to Homeland Security for further investigation. All media inquiries should be directed to Immigration and Customs Enforcement at (949) 360-3096.
