January 18, 2013 - Humqaq
The Traditional name for Point Conception is Humqaq, which means "the Raven comes." The role of the Raven in Chumash mythology includes giving
the souls of the dead their 'celestial eyes' needed for traveling on the Path of the Dead. For only by discarding the 'earthly eyes' of their previous lives, can
the souls of the dead reach the heavenly paradise from which they are reincarnated. ~Dr. John Anderson
John Wiley gives us a birds-eye view of Humqaq/Point Conception, the keeper's house, barracks and telecommunications shed. Between
space debris and injured hikers, there was a whole lot of falling going on. Read these stories and more, below.
