Los Padres National Forest to Conduct Controlled Burns
Los Padres National Forest officials announced plans to burn piled vegetation at administrative sites
across the Monterey Ranger District over the coming months.
The vegetation thinning projects are mainly to provide defensible space around the administrative sites.
The vegetation is cut and piled in order to dry out before burning. This helps limit the amount of
smoke introduced into the atmosphere. Buring will commence when weather conditions and air quality
are suitable to safely burn these fuels.
Individual prescribed burn projects will be announced via Twitter by @LosPadresNF a day or two prior to
the event.
