Is there a fire in the mountains of Carpinteria? It's very smokey and can be seen from Howard School on
Foothill Rd. It looks like it is growing.

Watching it from the harbor. Looks like a few fires with some distance between them. I suspect it is some form of controlled burn because it has been going for a while now.

I believe it is a burn day, but I saw the one on the east end of carp and it is far more smokey that a typical burn. Certainly got my attention. From the east side it looked much smaller so I would guess they just happen to have a lot of smokey fuel there.

Seems odd to have a burn day when there is a gale advisory for the local ocean waters.

The gale warning is for Santa Ana winds from Ventura to LA. Typically these winds are from the Ventura river to points south. There are no warnings for SB, Summerland, Montecito, or Carp, other than overnight freeze warnings. Winds in our area are forecast to be NNW 5mph, diminishing to calm overnight. Temp will be as low as 33 degrees on the coast overnight.

Smoke plumes went almost straight up, very cold out, not much fire danger. No big deal. And oh yeah permitted meaning reviewed and fire suppression methods on hand as required. And out in a field not up against a building such as Down the Road Motors formerly Montecito Motors. Safer than most uncleaned chimneys, forgetful candle lovers, greasy kitchens with untended food burning away or cigarette smokers tossing butts everywhere.
