The Point
updated: Jan 13, 2013, 12:16 PM

By John Wiley

William Etling's point about the "tempestuous, treacherous, fearsome" nature of Point Conception in today's excellent article, is further demonstrated by these views of that tortured shore from my recent flight. As you can see in the wider shot, this craggy "head" that sticks out to the West into the full force of the elements has been carved by the brunt of the Pacific's full force for millennia. There are several deep sea caves like these on that side, and I wonder if anyone has managed to explore them on the rare calm days.
