At 1:21 pm, Santa Barbara County Fire Department
(SBC FD) responded to a residential structure fire, 6690 Abrego Rd. in Goleta.
SBC FD responded three engines, a ladder truck, breathing support unit, an investigator
and a battalion chief to the scene. A second alarm was initiated but was cancelled upon
knockdown of the fire. SBC FD was assisted by UCSB Police, SB Sheriff's Dept., AMR
and the Gas Company.
First arriving firefighters found fire showing from the third floor of a three story, multi-
unit apartment complex. Firefighters gained access to the apartment, extinguished the
fire and searched for victims. The unit was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The fire
was confined to the living room of the two bedroom apartment. The remaining portion of
the apartment sustained moderate heat and smoke damage throughout. The fire was
knocked down at 1:35 pm and confined to the room of origin. The building's alarm system
malfunctioned. However, the smoke detectors in the apartment were in working
order. The adjoining apartments were evacuated. There were no injuries reported and
the cause of the fire is under investigation.
