What? The old callbox we love to use to gage the sand? You'll never remove it. NEVER!!!

What I would lie to know is why is our bankrupt state taking on and paying for the removal of these MOSTLY OIL DRILLING RELATED STRUCTURES?! why aren't the oil companies being tapped for this?!

State Lands has a three year permit from the Coastal Commission to remove hazards along the Ellwood Beach. This is the last year of the permit and workers are hoping to get as much done as possible this year. They are working on the shore near the plover preserve at this time in order to miss the nesting period which is coming up shortly. They will continue a ways up the beach towards Haskell's and cut off some really hazardous metal pilings that are uncovered during these spring tides. They cut the pilings at the bedrock if possible. Don't know who pays for this (other than the state of California) but you are right, oil companies are long gone. Talked to the supervisor of the project.

I'm directly involved in this and I believe that the oil companies are paying for this.

The beach cleanup is funded by a state bond passed a number of years ago. In response to comment 362307P, the reason to sign up for Nextdoor is to connect with your neighbors AND get information (emergency, public safety, events, referrals, and neighborhood watch to name a few) specific to your neighborhood. Some of the things posted are not things you'd want to post to the general public (on a site like Edhat), but are willing to post to your individual neighborhood (ranging in size from 100-800 people.) There are numerous other reasons to join and over 13% of the households in Goleta are using it to communicate.
