Appliance Repair
updated: Jan 09, 2013, 5:38 PM
I would like to know if anyone has a recommendation for appliance repair. Our
Kenmore gas stove has electronic starters, the ignition mechanism for the oven
pilot is malfunctioning. It will now only intermittently start up, and then only
after a long time, almost 2 minutes. The last time I used it, it preheated to the
right temperature, but then when I put in the casserole dish, and when it
eventually cooled a bit, the ignition did not re-ignite to keep the temp up. Would
appreciate a reasonable service that doesn't charge $100 just to come to your
front door, before then even walk in.

James at Integrity Appliance, 683-4577. He was sent to fix something under warranty, but I had another older appliance that needed something done and he did it for $10. Great guy.

For stoves I recommend Jerry's Oven Repair. Jerry is a wonderful guy, very honest and does good work.

Another vote for James at Integrity Appliance! He was very quick, had the parts needed to fix my washing machine, and wrestled with my no-longer-retractable cord on the vacuum. I have held onto his card for the last two years, just in case something something stops working!

My Kenmore was was acting up and I called The Gas Company. Zero charge. On his way out checked the water heater and furnace. They do winter/annual check-ups. I'm still going to right down the previous referrals. Good to know.

I second James, Integrity Repair. I hired him after reading peoples' recommendations here a few months ago, and found him to be super honest, ethical, cost-effective and fair. He knows his stuff inside out, and is reliable. You won't regret choosing him.

With a Kenmore you may be able to buy a Sears 1 year Warranty for about 100.00 dont tell them its acting up but they agree to fix it and service all parts are included. Its usually cheaper than a tech visit and parts. Good Luck whichever way you go!

Another vote for Bernie at A1 Appliance Repair. He fixed an old Martha Washington oven for us that nobody else could repair (and which could not be replaced without completely remodeling the kitchen). He's done several other jobs for us since then, and we've always been very happy with the results and the experience.

thanks for the tips, our stove was visited by Sears, they told us $560 to replace the electronic circut board. New stoves are really expensive.

That's an unusual problem..the 'ignitor' for the oven either works all the time or not at all. The Module that controls the ignitor may be at fault-probably a $50 part on line.

I have used and can recommend both James at Integrity Appliance and Allen and Sons Appliance Repair. James works by himself and is thus a little bit more difficult to schedule. Allen and Sons have several technicians and thus can respond quickly but they are more expensive.

I second the recommendations for James from Integrity Appliance Repair. The first time I called him it was to repair a refrigerator. He not only did the repair very quickly and inexpensively, but he also taught me how to do it myself because it was something that was going to be a continuing recurring problem (clogging of the defrost drain). He has helped me with a washer and dishwasher since then. He doesn't work on all brands, however.
