Can anyone tell me the best place for a beginner to go for Italian language lessons? Maybe 1 to 2 times per week?

Start with Rosetta Stone and work your way to Arnoldi's. I hear there is a conversation group that meets there once a week. Also SBCC has Italian classes. Alas none of it is free... except the conversation group.

Via Maestra 42 resturaunt may does conversational Italian evenings. Grab a bite and a glass of wine and start taking to people. Really fun. I have not been in a while so give them a call and see if they are still doing them.

Rosetta Stone is wonderful. I used it to brush up on my French that I've slowly lost over the years due to hardly ever using it. Brought me right back to mostly fluent.

Try livemocha online; it's free and you practice with native speakers. Just like Rosetta Stone.
