Jewelry Resizing
updated: Jan 08, 2013, 2:45 PM

Does anyone have experience with a local jewelry store that re-sized (or added a ring guard to) a ring that was too large? Though price is a concern, I'm more interested in finding a jeweler who can do the most professional job.

can't remember the name of it, it's in the San Roque strip near the post office. Small-ish store, but they do GREAT work. they have tightened stones in my wedding ring, it always comes back looking excellent.

Be careful resizing a ring smaller -- if there are stones, reducing the size can make them pop out.

Calla Gold helped me with my eternity band style wedding ring by welding small gold balls inside the ring to help hold the ring to my finger without shrinking the ring at all. They are very comfortable and none of the stones bear any extra pressure from the ring having been pushed into a smaller shape. Very cool idea!

Calla Gold Jewelry is on the internet at www.callagold.com - her phone no. is 963-4157. She's done a lot of fixes for me and I've been happy with every one.

Wouldnt use the Gem shop in San Roque - WAY over priced for the work they do. Patco does great work and has been in town for 20 + years.

The Jewelry Mart in Goleta. Have had several rings sized both up and down. Had a Antique Platinum ring sized and they matched the design on the ring. It was an invisible repair which I was most happy with.

Hey folks posting dupe referral questions, or thinking of posting a question before searching the existing referrals: Up near the top of the page there are colored blocks with words on them. Reading left to right I see "News"... "Events"... AHEM "Referrals". Yep. This has already been covered! Hope that's a helpful resource to you in the future!

There is guy at 429 Milpas, very sweet and efficient. Very fair jewelry repair prices, all work is done on site. We've had very good experiences with him.

Do not, do not, DO NOT go to Posh at Loreto Plaza. I went in to have a ring made larger. The rude man who owns the store took the measurements. I went back for the ring. It was still too small--yet Posh had the huevos to charge me MORE $$$ to make it the size it should have been in the first place.

Patco is the only place to go for ring sizing. Patco also fixed a watch that Posh charged me over $400 to bugger up.

Bad association: The place that was Posh in the 1970's crookedly stamped my and my horse's name on my first belt buckle, darn them. Yep, still bothers me after all these years. I wasn't so savvy and assertive as a pre-teen. At least I still have the buckle.

Bryant treated me wonderfully with sales, sizing and appraisal, and I'd go with Patco too after reading about them here. As I recomember, it must have been them who I had attach a garnet to a pendant, for a gift, many many decades ago.

The people at POSH are at best very over priced, snooty and pretentious. The store is jammed with all sorts of other stuff also over priced. Patco is the way to go. Not in a real great neighborhood, so take a friend! P.S. There is no real signage to Patco. They are on a corner if that helps any.

Be careful at Patco.
Have them write down what they will do and closely inspect the work when it's done.
They damaged my wedding ring when resizing it -He said that he would cut and add material to enlarge it but instead, they just stretched it and, in the process, split some bonds between the tri-gold layering on my ring.
At that point, the damage was done and I didn't trust them enough to let them have another go at it. For simple work, they seem to be capable but if there's a complex design or process involved, I'd suggest taking the time to look for and spend your money on a higher level of craftsmanship.

I have to smile--every time someone asks for any kind of jewelry recommendation, happy customers are quick to recommend Patco--and with good reason. I would rate it among the top three of ANY Santa Barbara businesses in terms of great service, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff, and all-around best bang for your buck. As one who was twice majorly burned by an aforementioned high-priced jewelry store in Loreto Plaza, I was delighted to discover Patco a year or so ago. They fixed my classic 1969 Bulova Accutron when "Brand X" couldn't.

The Gem Shop in San Roque, between the post office and Farmer Boys. A local reputable place where you will be treated fairly and have the work done in the best possible manner.

I have had the same impressions about Posh as overpriced and snooty. For any watch work, I go to the little store on Patterson and Holiister. It used to be at Five Points. Nice guy and reasonable.

Have the jeweler save the metal removed to size the ring down. I had an old gold ring resized smaller and the rose gold can likely not be matched if it ever is desirable to make it bigger again.

Don't let Calla Gold get your phone number, or your phone will continue to ring with her wanting to know if you want more work. Even after specifically requesting that I not be called again, she or her 'agent' continues to call, in fact this week I got another call. She doesn't do the work herself.
