I have been a Verizon customer for many years and have looked at Cox's special offer for the digital phone
service. Do any Edhat subscribers have this service and like it well enough to get rid of Verizon? Thanks.

We've had the Cox bundle for four years. Phone, TV and Internet works fine, though I have nothing to compare it with. I try not to look at the bill, which just keeps going up month after month. Even though we eliminate tiers of channels, the bill slowly keeps inching up. The service is fine, I guess. Cox seems to always be a step behind current technology. They promise a lot, but often come up short. A monopoly I try to live with.

Ahh the bundles. Be careful and make sure you read the fine print. Generally when you buy a bundle it's extremely hard to get out of and after the "GREAT DEAL" expires, the bill goes way up. Check what you really need and try to get the best deal. I recommend walking in to Cox, they give better service face to face than over the phone.

We had the VOIP phone in our bundle and ended up discontinuing it (hated how it would flash info about an incoming junk phone call when I was watching TV). We just don't need a landline anymore. The most annoying thing is that even though we dropped the VOIP phone service, the price stayed the same.

Within a couple of years you will be paying 300% or more of is being offered as a new customer. But you'll be locked in and accustomed to the level of service they provide and they know you won't leave 'coz there are no other choices. Don't do it .... don't become a Cox zombie like I did.

I like cox..I change my service all the time. Sometimes I want hbo, sometimes not. I keep a landline for faxes only. I call regularly and have them reduce my bill, and I do not commit to contracts. I like the service, but I am also a gamer, and they have the fastest internet around....which is what I want. if you dont care about internet speed...then go with verizon or att. They have crappy speeds for anyone using the internet for gaming, or if there are multiple users in the house they lag,, but they are fine for just surfing alone. If you need quality internet, then Cox is the only choice right now.

If i made a bundle of all the Cox bundle junk mail I've gotten over the years it would stand taller than the tallest tree on earth. Ditto on the bills going up and up and up with no explanation.

It's surprising there aren't more rants from Edhat readers about how expensive Cox is. I use for internet only. My elderly Mom appreciated cooking shows, animal channels, some old movies and would not have approved the cost. There's far more value from my Edhat subscription.

I have had Cox for many years. Their customer service is top. I however changed to their bundle and added my home phone two years ago. The price was about $125 with taxes. Two years later my bill for the same service is $190. be carfull when you climb over the fence for greener grass. The service is still top, but my wallet is getting smaller. sigh.

I would avoid Cox at all costs. Unless you want internet outages on an almost weekly basis. We have issues literally every other week on average and it's not like a five minute thing. Every area we've lived in here, it's the same. So it's not like we live in some weird dead zone. And the bundle price isn't the best deal in town. The Cox price is bordering on exploitative and it's just simply not worth it. I actually disagree with Tracy 314, Verizon has just as fast of an internet speed (I use it all the time) for much less.

If you want cheap service go to Verizon. I emphasize cheap as opposed to inexpensive. The internet service was dismal at best and never approached the guarantee -- I take it back, they never guarantee anything.

I used to have a bundle but found that it's less expnsive to eliminate Cox TV. I have Dish for TV, (and LOVE it), Cox for the internet (because it really does have the best customer service), and have a Panasonic cordless home phone which connects with Blue Tooth to my cellular. No more home phone. This has saved a lot of money, and I feel that I have the best of each service.

I've tried most of the big carriers, and have stayed with Dish for several years. Thus far, they do what they say. Don't sign up for a two-year contract, and you can keep them caring and offering deals! I keep a land line for emergencies... Verizon HS dsl has a good price and provides what I need. I don't play online games or stream. Avoid Cox.

349..Verizon does not have the same internet speed as cox offers...my post clearly states that if you are a gamer, then cox is the company to go with. Im not sure why you disagree.....verizon speeds cannot support high level virtual gaming period. Maybe you just read too quickly to understand the specifics of my post. People who are internet gamers know what I am posting about, if you are not a gamer then any other company would work for your internet needs......but cox is the only company locally who can provide genuine high speed internet.

I went to the Cox office yesterday to see how I could reduce my bill. I asked about the deals in their advertising flyer, but those deals are only for new customers. If I was a new customer my bill would be $50 less per month. I'd have to completely drop Cox internet & cable tv for six months and return as a "new" customer - you can't stop service for a day, then return a day later to get their deals. So I decide to reduce my service to their bare-minimum cable tv plan. The customer rep tells me to do that will cost me $30 because one of their technicians would have to come to my house to install a filter to block the channels that I would not be paying for. Today I will return a bundle of hardware to Cox and eliminate my tv service.

Like others, I use a mix of providers. Cox is good for internet and DirecTV for television. Formerly I used a Verizon bundle. Their internet wouldn't even support U-Tube videos. I have found Cox and DirecTV to have polite and helpful service.

Do you have to sign a 2-year contract to get the Cox bundle offer? What if Cox's contract with SB County is not renewed and you have already split with Verizon and kept your phone number? Anyone know about the Cox contract for our area?

I went directly to Cox's website and interacted with a rep. The deal with Cox is 2 of 3 services has to be either an upgrade or new service. If your internet service is preferred, a premium service is an upgrade, phone service is new and TV is continuing. You can't get that deal in the Cox store. They have different marketing departments online they said.

I have Verizon internet and DirectTV. No phone. My Cox bill started approaching $200 in 2009, so I switched out. I do a lot of video upload work, and Verizon handles it fine. I don't know anything about gaming capacity. I got on Verizon at $19.99 per month, now it's $35. I got on DirecTV at $39.99 a month, now it's $78. But that still beats the $200 I was paying with Cox!

Cox internet $53.00 per month (can't beat their speed) Directv $45.00 per mont (better picture than Cox) Magic Jack Plus $ 1.70 per month (keep old number) (Unlimited Voip) Total $100.00 per month For Directv go with Santa Barbara Auto Stereo Ask for Allan or Kevin

How does Directv compare to Dish around here for reception and service? I have been trying to read comments online but most comments are for Dish. Can you get local channels?

I've been a Cox customer with the phone bundle, and have been extremely happy. The phone works flawlessly, cable is 99% on (don't know where people live that say the cable is out every week) and internet is fast, and just got faster. Yes, it's expensive, but everything else is, too, and Cox has given us great service, and the upgrades over the past few years are amazing!!
