Date and time of Incident: 1-2-13 Approximately 4:05 pm

On 1-2-13, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a plane crash in the Oceano Dunes. When units arrived, they discovered a single engine fixed wing airplane had crashed onto state parks land within the Oceano Dunes. There was only one occupant, the pilot, inside the plane. He is described as a white male adult. CPR was administered, but the victim died at approximately 4:30 pm. The identity of the pilot is pending notification of next of kin. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are sending representatives to investigate the crash. The Sheriff's Office will conduct the death investigation. There is no further information at this time.
