J. Carlin Moyer

J. Carlin Moyer died peacefully at Serenity House
on December 29th 2012. Carlin was born in
Washington D.C. on June 17, 1942 to Carl and
Geraldine Gasser. Carlin spent her early years in
New Mexico but moved to NYC to pursue a career
as a professional ballet dancer. She later moved to
Chicago to work and tour with Martha Graham's
Chicago Opera Ballet. She was thrilled to dance
with Rudolph Nureyev in Prince Igor in the early
1960's.
She moved to Los Angeles, married and then to
Santa Barbara in the late 1960's. She participated in
local dance productions and also performed with
the Mainz State Ballet while living in Germany.
She returned to Santa Barbara permanently and became a botanical
illustrator, traveling to Belize to work with Annabelle Ford at El Pilar.
She and her sister, Teddy, traveled extensively throughout their lives, and
became business partners in art restoration and in property management. It
was after a memorable trip to China that Carlin was diagnosed with
Lymphoma (fNHL) which led her to change her life and habits dramatically
to survive in good health for ten years.
She is survived by her sister Teddy Gasser of Santa Barbara, and her
longtime companion, Jim Dale. She is also survived by many cousins in
Oklahoma and Ohio.
Teddy wishes to thank Dr. Julie Tachuchi and the fabulous staff at Serenity
House, Miki, Carla, Lynn, Yolanda to name a few.
The viewing will be at her sister's house until the afternoon of the 1st.
The burial and celebration will be held outdoors at the graveside on Friday
January 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Barbara Cemetery 901 Channel Drive
Montecito, CA. with a memorial gathering to be held afterwards.
