January 1, 2013 - A New Year's Message from Ed and the Dedicated
Staff
Apparently we're still here. It might have been a reprieve from the Mayan gods, or just new math applied to an old equation. In any case, we can sit
back, ponder lessons learned from the year that was, and look forward with high hopes and good intentions to the dawn of 2013.
For one thing, 2013 is not an Election Year, so our mailboxes won't be bulging with giant sheets of shiny cardstock printed with big fat... promises.
Darn, we should have weighed all that paper to see if the heaviest candidate won! Well, next time.
And another thing. This year, we will fulfill our resolutions to exercise, eat right, lose weight, learn to play the piano and speak a new language, and be
kind to animals, children, the elderly and all of humankind.
2012 was a busy year in our Little Blue Town by the Big Blue Sea! We counted drums and horses and Santa hats. We shared pictures of sunsets, waves,
beaches, and furry friends, and had bracing discussions about Panga boats, homelessness, bridges, and where to get good osso bucco. We even saw the
opening of a brand new hospital.
We found that our little blue town was full of local heroes and heroes visiting from far off lands as well. Of course we had a visit or two from the fire
gods. Luckily we were paying attention. One thing we noticed in looking back over the year on Edhat is the number of requests and responses for advice and
assistance from one subscriber to another, whether it was a referral for services or a just plant or animal ID.
Alas, the year ended on a sad note. We lost a well-loved friend and fearless leader. In response, our Edhat community had some wonderful things to
say. Thank you for all of the kind words and the comfort they gave Peter's family and the dedicated staff. He would have loved to know what a difference he
made, and he would be proud of all of us for carrying on with Edhat, the place he loved.
Just remember: While our Edhat Bag Flag may be flying at half-mast, it is still flying. And it will continue to fly, unless we have to go grocery shopping,
but we'll put it back up when we return.
So let's raise our coffee cups to 2013, and wish us all a Happy New Year!
In the news: A subscriber reports a robbery off of Turnpike, the Urban Hikers completed their New Years Funk Zone Invitational hike, and Edhat kicks off
the New Year with a 2012 photo recap. Read these stories and more, below.
