Dominican Republic, my home away from home. Friendly, courteous people, reasonably priced hotels (am staying at ocean view hotel part of the Marriott chain, kinda needs updating, but $90 including full breakfast.) There are street festivals, a lightheartedness, innocent, upbeat music, people who are surprisingly formal - rarely does one see ripped or saggy pants, no flip flops or even shorts other than the beach. The country has its dark side, but from the dozens of countries I've visited, it's one of the happiest places. The music is often a mixture of Motown and merengue and uninhibited seems to be an unknown word in their vocabulary and thinking. In comparison I'm a "Paraguayo" a wall flower. Excellent people watching.

Same place as always -- here. Having a few days off to enjoy the beauty and wonder of where we live is always a treat.

I travel enough for work so having quality time in the sauna and the outdoor claw foot, will trek to the harbor, the beach, maybe upper and east of State and all the way to Goleta.

Right here in beautiful Santa Barbara where most of my family continues to live after five generations. There's no place like home.

Going to the redwoods by the Russian River. I expect a lot of rain, and a lot of deliciously fresh air.

My vacation includes a long flight from my bed to the couch then get routed to the fridge for a beer then a slight stumble to the bathroom then a foggy reunion to bed.

We drove into Yosemite this morning just as snow started to fall...magical. We are going to the Bracebridge dinner and staying through Xmas.... Our first Xmas away from home, ever. The first white Xmas for our son, and us, for that matter! It's really gorgeous here in Winter.

And why isn't Gizmo1 deleted for being just plain mean and picking on a group? And a reply to it was? Yes, I marked that post negative.

Home. We sat in the SB airport and never got off the ground Saturday. Flights to SFO were delayed enough and booked enough that we could not get a connection to continue on to see my son. No Christmas for us this year.

I'm visiting the beautiful seaside town of Santa Barbara, where there are great hikes and flowers blooming and great bakeries and quiet nights and it's really cheap, too--I can stay there for no more than it costs me to stay at home! And I'm also going up to SF for a family friend's 88th birthday on 1/1/13. She has a spiffy apartment on Nob Hill with views of both bridges--amazing. My daughter's never seen it, and we're both excited. We're also going to ride a cable car and walk some serious steps. I'm not a City employee but I'm happy to "allow" people to come here for wine and bikes and marathons. I feel lucky to live in a place where people come for things like that.
