updated: Dec 20, 2012, 9:06 PM

Our website needs help from someone who knows WordPress well. Any recommendations?

I know it pretty well. What exactly do you need to know?

I've been using WP on several websites for the last few years, and just this week started to investigate alternatives for the New Year. The interface has gotten worse with recent "improvements" and the competition is rapidly outpacing them. You might want to investigate Weebly or Jimdo.

If you want to stay with WP, you might post a followup comment here with some details about what you're trying to do.

I've been quite pleased with the work of Arun Kumar (info@enetspark.com). He's done a host of sophisticated tweaks for me in the last year or so.

Real website designers don't need no stinkin tools like WordPress. We code by hand. Hoorah.

6300 - you're still selling buggy whips to horsemen...

OP - try going online to Wordpress.org and searching their forum - WP is the most ubiquitous platform on the web and there are millions of people who can customize your theme and or ad add-ons for you.

Be weary of anyone who wants to charge you an hourly rate for this type of work - do it on a project basis only. Otherwise you'll end up spending a lot more than you need to...

356310 - Well my buggy whip has been honored as the best in the world in its category, so there!

356335 - I'm not for hire. I'm way above doing websites for money.

Did you get the upgrade set up through your browser, etc?
I use for our website and it is so easy but you MUST watch your email (you probably did not) to get switched to updated version.

You may need a 'geek' to get you rolling. Be careful and get references for the 'geeks.' Negative comments here don't help... We need Ed resurrected.

Thanks for your input! We have a website that is in Word Press. We did it because our webmaster at the time said it would be easy (not so much...) and we'd be able to make changes on it ourselves. But now we have links that don't work and we want to add some stuff to our homepage and we don't have a clue how to do it. Don't have time to do classes, youtube or otherwise. Need some nice reliable honest geek who can go presto, chango and have it be the way it should be. Our old webmaster now lives out of town & he wants to charge a ridiculous amount per hour to work on the site (which he initially said he said he'd do free when he constructed the site). So any advice y'all can give is greatly appreciated. I don't know websites or code or computers from nuthin'. Can barely do email.

Came here expecting a code hero, was not disappointed. CMS talk is like politics or religion for nerds - very polarized opinions exist. WP is often anathema to the near-synesthetes for whom "clean" code is an obsession. WP's flexibility has costs: lots of overhead and many extraneous lines of code, and it can be difficult to expand custom functionality beyond the scope of plug-ins. However, it's arguably the most popular beginner CMS. There is arguably support and security in its numbers. It is arguably one of the easiest and most cost effective to set up yourself, as the product itself is free/opensource.

Also, the guy (is it sexist that I am 100% sure of gender?) saying he's "way above doing websites for money" sounds like many, many friends of mine. Their opinions and accessories are elite: you can't tell them nothin' about the internet, cell phones, audis/bmws/brodozers, other ephemeral status symbols etc. How nice to be around.
