Airdropped Packages
updated: Dec 19, 2012, 5:42 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

I noticed 3 sort of packages floating in the air over Santa Barbara, West Mission Street area, (as if they were dropped from a plane) around 5:15pm today. Does the hospital receive things that way? Did anyone else see it or know about it?

Santa accidently dropped them as he was practicing his route for next week.

Cottage hospital errantly buzzing around with aircraft and helicopters misplacing things.

My dad told me he saw something that looked like a balloon or parachute around the same time/same area. He said he watched it stay motionless in the sky for a couple min, went inside to grab his binoculars and when he went back outside it was gone. He said there was an airplane that flew under it and the circled it an went toward the airport.

Interesting. I was already home and heard no overhead flights. 787 has provided some good info. OP, what exactly did you see? (Cottage better not be airdropping packages! High risk for loss, among other things. kidding...)

A pilot friend of mine used to have fun tossing toilet paper rolls out of his plane and fly back and try to hit them. This could be some similar type type of fun.

Seriously, like, with parachutes?? I've never heard of such drops.

don't they sometimes deliver "organ donor" parts this way?

Delivering anything via "air drop" into the city seems odd to me ... especially if it was something as important as a body organ ...

Maybe something fell out of the helicopter by mistake. Airdropping stuff by parachute over a crowded urban area sounds a bit unseemly. But what do I know? I didn't see it.

I saw it too while driving on the 101. It looked a little like a shooting star falling to earth. I wonder what it was.

You've got to be kidding. Does anyone seriously think a hospital would air drop anything?

I certainly don't think it was an airdrop.

I can't think of anything legal that would be dropped like this. Did it land near a pair of shoes hanging from an electric line?
