I know there are a lot of haters of the Chromatic Gate but this morning it looked more like the Pastel Gate.
Having been rinsed by the rain it was pleasing to my eye. Actually, everything looked pleasing to me this
morning.

Looks 10000000000% better than usual, but how bout the other side? You know, the one with rust running from the top down the front...

Today was one of the most beautiful days in the history of the earth. At least here in SB.

It's still an out-of-place, ugly pile of metallic crap.

Even this dilapidated pile looked good in this shot, thanks to the unbelievable beauty of our skies and atmosphere today! Just as an aside, I'll be happy to restore this DP for a mere seven thousand dollars. Plus the paint. I'll have it done before New Years. :)

Every day would be a perfect one for me if this eye sore were moved to El Presidio de Santa Barbara. It would be in great company there.

Dan for future reference you could have sold me on the Gate or the King tides as amazing if you had just included the kitties into the shot somehow.

I'm with SBITIZEN. You gave us at least weekly photos of the kittens and got us to fall in love with them and then you just pretty much stopped cold. We don't care that they're not babies anymore. We'd love to see them frequently. Along with your other great photos. Incorporating the kitties into some of your shots would be a hoot.

Looks good enough to me! Amazing how many wankers there are here in SB (and I was born and raised here...) Move to almost any other country for a while and see how LUCKY we are to live here.

In the morning light everything looks good. Even the Red Lion looks fab. A few homeless guys at the base of the Gate, if they could be rousted that early, would also look good. (Okay, on that last I was checking to see if anyone was even paying attention.)

Exceptionally good photo - love the angle. Thank you. Was today that much nice than most of the beautiful days here? Am very grateful to live here - it's worth the sacrifices.

How much would it cost to paint? does not seem like that large of a job. i know the Art Fund Gallery was raising money for restoration i will go by today and see what i can find out. Sad that so many people are quick to destroy originality, I imagine if it was in LA it would be preserved and appreciated. Public art is a great way to generate income for the city if it is done correctly. Had a great time in the Funk Zone last weekend maybe we can move it there...

It is nice and very import and i believe to represent other forms of art. not everyone is into dolphin statues. easy to pretend that all art should be beach scenes and all architecture should be imitated spanish design but thats not realistic. without art there is no culture, support diversity.

I certainly would like to know how this expensive piece of dilapidated "artwork" generates money for the City of Santa Barbara as another poster claimed. My understanding is, not only was a great deal of money SPENT installing this creation, but the maintenance is a considerable ongoing expense. At least the large ugly chrome or aluminum colored sphincter in front of the County Administration building at Anapamu and Anacapa streets, is low maintenance so little further tax money is wasted on it's upkeep. Clearly these creations are considered artistic by their makers, who of course, are the ones who get significant tax monies for what they like to call "public art". Many of those who were involuntarily forced to pay for these things, would likely call them unsightly heaps!

@967 Your tax dollars did not purchase the land, nor will they be used in restoring the sculpture...know of what you're commenting on is a good idea.

The land on which the "Chromatic Gate" is situatated is City Owned" park land. The earlier comment did not castigate the ownership of land by any public body, City or County. It only referred to what was placed on that land and must be viewed by everyone who passes like it or not. There are those in the community who rightfully complained about commercial buildings blocking the views pedestrians had of the mountains. They have a right to complain about the installation of hideous creations, paid for with public tax monies that claim to be artwork when they are just a means for a so-called "artists" to acquire public money in the name of "public art".
