Fruitcake, I love it! Does anyone know where it is available in Santa Barbara, and reasonably priced? Thanks
so much. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Best Fruit Cakes can be found online at Collin's Street Bakery. They are located in Corsicana, Texas. Use the Google and you will find them. Amazing....

I thought I remembered TJ's having them last year. I don't recall seeing them this year, but I also don't look for them. Honestly, enough people dislike them I'm sure you could get a few from friends if you put the word out. :) I'd try Costco.

There's a fabulous fruitcake and it's free of calories. For years as a prank gift I buy an inflatable version at jokester websites online. As the fruitcake description states: "An Inflatable Fruitcake, you ask? Well, it's simple - nobody eats them anyways, an Inflatable fruitcake is reusable and re-giftable so it is better for the environment, it's non-toxic (unlike real fruit cakes), it is always fresh, it's cheaper to mail, and best of all - no crumbs! "

I too am a fruitcake fan. Your criteria are a problem though. Good fruitcakes are fairly expensive to make, so finding good _and_ reasonably priced is difficult. Making them yourself is the cheapest option, but even that is pricey (and time consuming).

Gethsemani Abbey in Kentucky, where Thomas Merton lived, makes really good fruitcake. It's aged in Bourbon whiskey, so it keeps a long long time. They also make excellent cheese. https://www.gethsemanifarms.org/fruitcake.aspx

Fruitcakes are easy to make - just takes a bit of time and lots of money. I made three large ones and several small ones last weekend. Slipped a bit of Cointreau into the batter! I'd love to share my mother's recipe if you contact me at fuchsia10@cox.net

this must've been a doozy if the comments were totally deleted, not just nannied into their own corral. I knew fruitcake was controversial, but this takes the cake! I know OP doesn't want to make it and I respect that, but Alton Brown's recipe has won great praise and I know many people who have made and enjoyed it. Even some who were not so big on fruitcake. I hope someone finds this useful. Brown's recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/free-range-fruitcake-recipe/index.html If you want to go all out, here's the transcript of the Good Eats fruit cake episode: http://www.goodeatsfanpage.com/GEFP/index.htm

Maybe OP knows someone who bakes? & can buy some of the fruit and do some kind of barter with the baker?

A friend used to give me one each year from a monastery in Big Sur. It was moist and dense and delicious (if you like fruitcake). You might be able to find it online.

Good one, ACF. Your post awoke a faint memory; I have heard of them before, New Camaldoli Hermitage. Here's the site: http://www.hermitagebigsur.com/fruitcake.asp
