I work at UCSB and overheard some students saying that Oprah was on campus today and just left. Does anyone know what Oprah was doing here (and during finals week)?

I dunno if this is the case, but when I went to high school here locally, saying that "Oprah will be on campus!" was a running trick/joke told by teachers to get kids to come to class that day - usually a test day.

She went to SBCC a few months back. At the time I heard she was trying to find suitable matriculation for grads from her school in Africa. Maybe she was scouting UCSB too.

963: I am a UCSB graduate. I know numerous other UCSB graduates who have gone on to have very successful careers (and lives), many of whom stayed in the area and continue to contribute positively to our community. We're not all "wayward kids"... It's unfortunate that you would assume so.

Here Here, 365! Shame on any Santa Barbarian for putting down their LOCAL University! As a recent UCSB student (and lifelong Santa Barbara local), I can say that my education was top-notch. UCSB is wonderful place not only for academics, but students actually learn to balance their lives - most of the people I knew held down jobs, internships, graduated with high marks, and still managed to enjoy some "wayward" leisure time. As for all the people who claim to "not care" about why Oprah was on campus, why did you read this article? As the great Oprah Winfrey once said, "Don't throw stones in glass houses..."
