I'm curious as the date grows closer and the references are popping up more and more - do any of you
believe or know someone who believes the world is truly going to end this December 21, 2012? Why do
you/they choose to believe this? Have you/they done anything to prepare for this, a la Harold Camping's
followers' style?

No, I don't believe that the world will end on the 21st. But I do believe that we are coming closer to seeing Jesus return. Perhaps in the next few years. There are just too many Earthquakes, Storms, and Crazy Weather that has been happening around the world the last few years and how quick we forget about all these events that have killed 100s of thousands of people.

After watching the show The Preppers I realized there are a certain type of people who worry about these things and thankfully I am not one of them. I do believe in being prepared for natural disasters like earthquakes etc, but that is as far as I take it. Life is just too short to waste time worrying about silly things you have no control over anyway.

Yes. Just like I believed that late 2011 would be the end of the world. Which was a correction from May 2011. Which was a long reprieve after I was sure the world was going to end on Y2K. Which came shortly after my Hale-Bopp end-of-the-world panic. Which... Wikipedia has a pretty exhaustive list of past and future wrong predictions of the end of the world. To be fair, the list includes 3 things that are at least plausible (all of which, not coincidentally, are predicted by scientists): the lowering of CO2 levels in 500M years, the sun engulfing the Earth in 5 billion years, and the eventual heat death of the universe.

I also believe that Jesus's return is soon. Or rather, the rapture is soon, the 7 year tribulation is right after, and then comes Jesus's return to rule the Earth and set everything right. I watch Jack Van Impe's weekly show that is on late Saturday. Google him for his website. His knowledge of hi-tech could be improved, but his knowledge of the Bible, current events, and their political ramifications is excellent. I'm not sure he's right, of course. He could be a "false prophet". But my gut says he's on to something, and that he is truly trying to faithfully preach the word of God. He wrote a book that explains Revelation verse by verse that has been very helpful.

I love life and I think we have it pretty good here in the US but if it does end (I totally believe it is a farce) what difference does it make if we all go at different times or all at once... ???

There won't be any Armageddon happening, but the more I read about the power grid and solar flares, the more I think we may all be in for a rude shock. Let me write now, just in case, that I will miss "talking" with all of you. Will especially miss those of you who have such a wicked sense of humor. I do have one friend who sent out a message via Fbook. But same friend also bought $1,000 worth of canned tuna and supplies pre- 2000/Millennial sky-is-falling prediction.

Tomorrow, any tomorrow, could be the end of the world for me. But on the 21st we are celebrating the new life of a couple together, as we toast them on the occasion of their wedding in Santa Barbara on that specific date! And Happy Solstice to you all!

The world WILL end eventually, but no, not on the 21st. This isn't even a Mayan Prophecy or involved in the Mayan calendar. Google it and you'll see that it's something that some people in the UK came up with in the 1980s and has very little to do with anything but fiction. Yet again, reports of the world's demise are greatly exaggerated.

No. All that nonsense about the world ending on 12-21 doesn't even hold up when you take into account that the Mayans didn't have leap years, so if you add those in, the world would have already ended. Not that I would have believed it anyway, but I thought that was a cool explanation anyway. Google image "well played mayans" for a few laughs.
