Verizon Dial Tone
updated: Dec 10, 2012, 11:32 AM

Since, December 7, our Verizon residential landline has had no dial tone. Callers to our telephone just
hear ringing, and ringing, and ringing, but we hear static when we pick up. Verizon says it's an "internal
problem" that they're trying to resolve at their office, but have so far been unsuccessful to remedy. We
live in the Hollister/Modoc area. Anyone else having problems this weekend with Verizon phone service?

YES! I had intermittent internet access and static on phone line for months. Then, a week ago internet stopped working. After three days of calls I was told they would send someone out in four days! He would arrive between 12 and 5 PM He never showed. At 8PM I got a call that he would be here between 8 AM and 5 PM the next day!!!!! He arrived at 1:30 PM. He told me the phone line from Verizon box to my house was put in incorrectly and was sharing a pipe with Cox, which they're not supposed to do. He was very nice, made a temporary fix and told me I need to pay an electrician to place the correct line! How is this my fault? I had to wait a week and sit around for 11 hrs. to get repairs. Workman told me they have lots of problems when it rains.

Me too and I'm Chino & Anapamu area. Fuzzy phone during and after all the rain, now internet totally won't work. They are sending someone out on Weds. I hope they can fix it and don't tell me what they told you about having to hire an electrician! I'm a renter, that would be totally unacceptable. Guess then I would have to try out cox internet, yuck!

Underground telephone lines that were put in years ago can degrade to being a problem. They were for me, and the lines had to be repaired and protected.

This was about a year ago, but we had exactly the same situation with our Verizon land line. After several phone calls and two or three visits from technicians, most of whom told us that the problem was our internal wiring, someone finally replaced the drop line from the telephone pole to the house. We haven't had a problem since. Keep after them.

I'm having some serious issues this morning with my Cox Telephone and internet service, perhaps the two could be linked? I'm getting very intermittent flickers in internet speeds, and my phone is cutting in and out when i make a call! I'm hoping that it's an issue Cox is aware of.

Cox and Verizon use to different technologies and two different networks, so your Cox issues are unrelated.

Don't know if you saw the article last week about the 104 year old who was saved from a falling branch by a neighbor, but she lost her Verizon service that Saturday morning, and last I heard, it was still down. It has been 10 days. They have received several calls, and they finally said that all (!) of their service people are on the east coast dealing with Hurricane Sandy problems.

Verizon: Worst.CustomerService.Ever. So frustrating to deal with, and yes, we've had issues with static and no dial tone on our landline over the years.

I live 1 mile beyond city street limit in a remote canyon. My phone has been out since last week. I just got out of the hospital and have no way to call for help. Cell service is spotty. I called Verizon from my hospital bed last Thurs and they said they would make my repair a priority. I still have a dead phone! I do not know what else to do besides lay here and pray nothing goes wrong!
