My nephew came to visit this afternoon, and before returning for dinner, he wanted a trip to Gibraltar and then had this picture taken:

Wonderful picture. We rode our horses up there in the 1950s. Never heard it refered to as Gibralter then, always Depression Drive (built by CCC in 1930s).

He is standing on "The Rock" which used to be the Gibralter Road party spot until the county closed off the parking along it. In the early 1900s, steps were cut into the rock and iron pipes (the stubs can still be seen) supporting a chain railing were installed to encourage the puiblic to hike up the long trail to get there (no road back then) and climb up the rock to take in the view. The rock was called "El Rocka Grande." I'll send in some old photos of it later. - Neal Graffy

It's "Gibraltar", spelled the same way as the big rock in the Iberian Peninsula.
