That sucks. Good practice for the "big one" however.

Well, Costco is hosting a road show for Goal Zero solar panel kits through Sunday. You can get a panel/battery set-up that will charge a laptop and cell phone for about $250. I was thinking earthquake preparedness, but I can see how it would be useful in this situation too.

We did not get our power back until approximately 4 a.m. today--all in all, about 24 hours w/o power. I think ours was the last block to get it back. Very frustrating!!

657: Good observation skills. Yes. 24 hours without power was interesting, to say the least. I got kick out of how I was on autopilot and would flip light switches before thinking. We had lots of romantic candle light and a big roaring fire. Booklights aren't all that fun, though. And now I know to keep my laptop charged at all times. Got a good laugh when my über repair man/handy guy roommate asked me why we needed a key to open garage door. It was great to see the look on his face. "Oh, yeah, electric." At midnight, I walked up to Pedregosa and Laguna to watch Edison at work. Two cranes with four guys in cherry-picker buckets. I could tell the time estimate for power would have to be moved back. Only one other person out walking. Black as pitch, but starlight nice. Anyone else see the moonrise? The moon looked like it had been torn in half, all raggedy edged.
