The child is a 15 year old male 5'8 140 pounds wearing a long sleeve burgandry shirt, blue jeans, brown and white shoes, and brown glasses. He has been missing since 10:30am..I believe his first name is Andrew.

"Special Needs" or it is "At-Risk." Who makes up this media reporting vocabulary anyway. Geez.

SBPD reports that they have checked the campus, fields in the area, all around the school and Andrew is not there. I heard a police officer say that the kid was seen running West from the school when he was last seen..Makes me wonder if there was an incident of some sort? I hope the kid is OK..

@105P - spare us your faux outrage at our public servants for using respectful language describing Santa Barbara's kids born with disabilities; and @142 - your comment is offensive and not humorous in the least. I feel sure that kids born with disabilities would rather not have to take a bus that others "joke" about. Let's all try to proceed with some dignity and respect for folks born with their disabilities -- it was the caprices of nature, not their own harmful acts.

I wonder if the kid got bullied to make him run off like that? I hope he doesn't get in any trouble with his family over this.

If you are a teacher in the high school system, you know that "special needs" can refer to all sorts of individuals, not just those born with disabilities. It's a blanket term that covers "at risk" youth as well.

Thank you, Roger for keeping us updated. It must have been very stressful for you to hear the drama as it was taking place. I know how much you care about others and am sure that you were sick with worry as you were posting the updates. So glad this boy was safely located and returned to his parents...like you, I hope he doesn’t get an earful for taking off from school, because it sounds like he had a pretty rough day already… but I’ll be he’ll have some sort of unpleasant consequence for his bad choice.

105P, ANY student who appears to have run away, cannot be found or has anyone concerned about them, whether or not they have "special needs," IS AT RISK. Nomenclature is certainly not the topic of discussion in this situation. Some compassion here, please. Glad it ended well.
