Just a guess but looking at the organization's website the Fund probably pays more for salaries and overhead than it dispenses as grants to worthy causes.

518p Not a guess, your ignorance is showing. And your cynicism. You must be a blast at parties.

349532 thanks for pointing out my ignorance, figured I would check further looking through a few years tax filings seems to be about 52-54 per cent in grants, and 46-48% in overhead costs. My guess was not far off.

Perhaps you misunderstand their role? I am only roughly familiar, but they are not simply a money redistribution system. 50 cents on the dollar would be a pretty bad showing in that case. They actually support nonprofits in other ways, helping them to be effective and succesful. Perhaps we could agree this is an assistance that many non profits could use? What you simply describe as "overhead" others may call "performing their stated function". Share your source and i will look into some numbers myself.

518. What do you value your time at? How much time do you give to your community? We at SBBA need more volunteers. Ready to step up? The Fund for SB is so much more than just grant funds. Get to know them before, and after, your quick google search. Sweet Start is gonna be sweet!

I have a friend who started out as a volunteer for a Los Angeles-based nonprofit and was quickly offered a job, which she accepted. After seven years, she quit. The nonprofit -- which wants its financials to look good for federal grants and donors -- overworks its employees. That online pie chart looks great, but at what human cost? Based on my friend's experiences, I'm not sure I'd work for a nonprofit. Volunteer, maybe. Work, no.

I respect The Fund because they help organizations that cannot get grants elsewhere. I have found them to be a group of very hardworking folks who want to see the best in their world...like many of us do. Hope they keep on doing what they do. Be kind always.

@349543P Your guess could have been right or it could have been wrong. It was wrong, which is pretty far off.
