EdHat informed me that I was the fortunate recipient of two tickets to the Saturday afternoon performance of "The Nutcracker" put on by the Goleta School of Ballet. http://goletaschoolofballet.com/

I was thrilled to receive these tickets because my daughter's close friend, Natalie, and other classmates are part of the cast and I was planning on attending with my family anyway, so this was like a BOGO sale. Sweet!

We piled into the car and headed towards the Marjorie Luke Theater. In the car I asked Isabelle what part Natalie was playing and Izzy informed me that she was playing a "party boy" part as well as "Chinese Tea guest". She then went on to state that: "It's much better to be a Party Boy than a Party Girl". Me: "Really? I don't know about that - why do you say that?" Izzy: "Because you don't have to spend all that time curling your hair". Ha! Tru that!

When we arrived, the theater was already pretty full and we took the Usher's advice and found great spots on the balcony. It was nice to see the performance so well attended. The lights went down and the curtains came up and we were in for a great performance. The set was a visual treat and all the colorful costumes looked beautiful on the dancers. It was not long before we spotted Izzy's friends and they did a fabulous job amongst all the other great dancers.

I was familiar with "The Nutcracker" story, but my kids were a bit confused about what was going on, so, during intermission, I filled them in. I think that this is something that could maybe be put into the nice program that one receives at check-in, or maybe make the storyline more clear somehow during the performance, however that's no biggie. The second half was just as great as the first.

Beautiful music (love Tchaikovsky), great costumes, excellent choreography and wonderful dancers that seemed to be right on point at every move. Besides our friends, I especially enjoyed watching the candy cane dancer who exuded grace and such a beautiful smile.

Also, seeing all the little ballerina mice in their sparkle costumes come out was a highlight and very emotional for me (it reminded me of a time, seemingly not so long ago, when Izzy was part of a Itty-Bitty Ballet group... my how time flies...) All the young girls put on a great performance and were well rehearsed in all their moves. Bravo!

The lead dancers were very polished and performed with ease and excellence. If you're looking for something to do Sunday afternoon, I highly recommend you go see the Goleta School of Ballet's performance of "The Nutcracker" as it's a visual and musical treat well worth the price of admission (- especially if you win tix on EdHat.) and a great way to share in your local community.

Thank you EdHat for the tickets and all that you do all year long, and thank you to all the Goleta School of Ballet performers for bringing so much joy and beauty to our community via their performances in "The Nutcracker"

Cheers, Sylvia

p.s. Attached is a picture of Izzy and Natalie after the performance. You may recognize Izzy from her "beehive halloween picture" a few years ago that popped up on the scary story banner a little while ago. Yes - that's my son photobombing. (-:
