Goleta Vibrations

Does anyone know what the subtle low frequency ground vibration and
low frequency sound is that's been happening every 10 seconds in Goleta
yesterday and today?

I hear it in my neighborhood near Cottage occasionally, always after midnight. I let it go... I'll never find out, though I'd like to. You're not crazy. ;-)

I love that there are others that are as sensitive as I am. I don't tell anyone because they don't get it.

call Dep't of Public Works office--they'd know of any construction going on. Pile drivers usually produce a concussive feeling as well as a dull sound. Is it 24/7 or just during normal working hours?

It's probably construction, but if you are near the airport and you hear a low-pitched quick buzz every 10 seconds through the speakers in your radio or computer, then that is the airport radar. The radar's pulse rate is around 200 Hz, which produces a pretty low-pitched sound.

SERIOUSLY: I live in Goleta and have felt it too. Its like vibration mode of your cell phone but coming through the ground in intervals very similar to a phone ringing, then it stops. I was starting to think that someone was buried under my yard with their cell phone on. Too bad we can't get any real answers, instead all we get are responses from screwball political whiners. Yes, I am talking about you.

The 10-sec. interval sounds suspiciously like a piledriver to me. The only other candidate for that interval would be a geophysical/seismic survey, like the one they're proposing off Diablo Canyon. But the onshore equipment doesn't produce a 10-sec pulse, I don't think. Plus, it's too far away to be felt in Goleta from San Luis Obispo. Or is it?

763 here. Cheers, Mesa, glad to hear that there are a few of us! Pile drivers are pretty obvious, or at least you can go out and find them. Not criticizing, just lived near freeway for several reconstruction projects, beyond resurfacing.

Dang, I wish I could edit my posts! Construction never caused the sounds I occasionally hear or heard I've been through rebuilding/resurfacing of 101, rebuilding of buildings, rebuilding of a lane onto the 101, replacement of water mains and whatever the heck was done with Cottage/Oak Park drainage well before any Cottage demo or reconstruction. I can tell when it's my ears or occasional, not chronic, tinnitus. I always wonder if that's what it is. But there's a lot of stuff going on out there in the night! I'm happy I can hear owls, crickets and song birds in spring & summer. I still always wonder about the late-night jets. And the stuff I can't figure out? I fall asleep. As I said, I'll never know.
