These photos were taken near the Tea Garden this afternoon. The massive attack on the fire diverted a terrible situation. Thank you first responders!

Anyone know the exact location? Does Cold Spring trail go right through the burn zone?

Yes, the trail goes right through the burn zone. It looks like the fire started by the trail at the bottom of the switchbacks. The power lines appeared not to be involved in this incident.

Thanks, Bumble. I thought I could see those switchbacks in the photo. Gonna be strange doing that hike now...

Great photos. So did the helicopters get the water from the ocean or a reservoir?

I know this is a trivial question given how close we came to a very bad situation (thanks so much to the firefighters and those fantastic airdrops) but I suppose that lone tree just above the fire road, with it's welcome scrap of shade, is gone?

284P - Happy to report the eucalyptus tree is still there, unscathed. Really, really lucky!!!!

The lone tree is the same one that got "yarned" a few months ago.

EMI-it sure was a nice day for a hike. Thank you. CHICA-not sure it they used sea water but my guess is that it wouldn't be good for the equipment. I will try to find out about the use of sea water for fire fighting. I heard that one of the places the copters were filling up with water was one of the ponds in Birnam Wood. One of the unplanned consequences of the Federal mandate regarding the covering of open air water reservoirs is that the helicopters have less sources of fresh water for firefighting purposes.
