KEYT does have some info on their website as well as facebook, however, nothing more then what I see here. My husband called from Montecito, on middle road, said he can see flames and smoke and can see the fire personnel go by. Said it appears to him that its looking like its burning down the canyon and like it has spread from when he first noticed it. He's not a fireman though.

What is the point of switching frequencies during a fire that is threatening the public????? Seems dangerous and selfish "you don't get to know the bad things going on because you're the public". What a load of BS. Switching during an event that doesn't threaten everyone in its path is totally understandable when the public could use that info to hinder the investigation, but in this case they are just putting people in the dark when they may quite literally NEED the information. Emergency responders should be smarter than this.

Actually, 735 they didn't. I was looking at that site AFTER I saw this here, first. I don't care what that date stamp says, I saw it here first, then checked KEYT and there was nothing when I commented. Also, why is it too much to expect a bulletin on the tv or news from KEYT rather than just a web article. If you don't already know there's a fire, you're hardly going to go check KEYT's weird little website.

-775P, typically fire units responding to a large-scale emergency switch to a tactical radio frequency for better communications between those units handling the emergency and so to not take up airtime on the main [e.g., county-wide] frequency. It's a simple matter to obtain those frequency numbers, and usually a scanner can pick them up. They are not trying to confuse the public or cover anything up, but please, feel free to continue to assume away...

Off-topic of fire. 831P. Most large emergencies like a potential wildfire get switched to their own emergency channel so that those dealing with that emergency have their own channel to communicate on, and they don't have to sift through 'drunk driver on Milpas' calls while figuring out which plane or helicopter is where, which engine is where, etc. It's plain common sense. It's not some weird conspiracy to deny the public the right to know. If you've got an emergency scanner, just listen to some other channels. I'm fairly sure they do announce which channel to switch to on the original channel, so that all the people who NEED to communicate know where and how to communicate.
